Students donate gifts to new mothers

Parenting and Child Development class members recently donated to Elmore Medical Center baby blankets and infant caps they made.

The Mountain Home High School Parenting and Child Development students, accompanied by their teacher, Christy Morgan, delivered homemade baby blankets and infant caps to Elmore Medical Center recently.

Students learn parenting and child care skills during the class. Each semester students participate in a community service project, which they select. This past semester the majority of the class elected to make the baby blankets and infant caps to give to the families of babies born at Elmore Medical Center.

Three of the students worked on a pregnancy prevention project.

Morgan has been teaching the Parenting and Child Development class for nine years at Mountain Home High School. As part of the class, students take care of a simulated baby which requires 24 hour care. The simulated baby exercise gives the students a feel for what real life parenting requires.

"It is always a pleasure receiving new blankets and hats to give to the families of our newborns" said Doreen Krabbenhoft, EMC Development Director. "It is impressive to see students participating in a project that they have put so much of their personal time into."
