Evelyn Barnett
Evelyn M. Barnett, 80, of Mountain Home, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at a local care center.
A graveside service was held Friday, April 25, at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Evelyn was born May 3, 1927, in Stanton County, Kan., the daughter of Charles Otis Lewis and Pearl Rose (Cox) Lewis.
Evelyn attended high school in Syracuse, Kan. While there she met the love of her life, Tracey Barnett. They were married after Tracey's return from World War II, where he had been serving in the US Navy.
Evelyn and Tracey raised two sons. Jay was born in 1947, followed by Brad in 1954. "Her boys were her life," her family said.
During their marriage, Evelyn and Tracey lived in several towns in Kansas while Tracey pursued his college degree in journalism. Evelyn attended college in Pittsburg, Kan., for printers, moving to Pueblo, Col.
Evelyn was a homemaker for several years.
Then moving to Rock Springs, Wyo., she worked at the local newspaper as a keypunch operator and proofreader. After another move, to Denver, she started working for the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post.
Evelyn lived in Mountain Home the last year after being in the Nampa-Caldwell area for the past 15 years. She enjoyed reading, knitting and doing things around the house.
Evelyn is survived by: her son Jay, and his wife, Jonna Barnett, of Mountain Home; her son, Brad, and his wife, Margie Barnett, of Nampa; her brother, James Lewis, of Farmington, N.M.; her sister, Sybil Helm, of Syracuse, Kan.; and her sister, Effie Cheatum, of Cushing, Okla., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She preceded was in death by five brothers; Galen Allen Lewis, Everett Duane Lewis, Wayne Myril Lewis, Gilbert Lewis, Herbert Lewis, and one sister, Mayme Cook.
