Bond too expensive now
Dear editor:
The school bond is a heated issue. What I wonder most about is the timing of the school board?
Our economy is in the worst shape it has been in years. We are in a recession. Our dollars are not going as far as they did 6 months ago. The school board takes this opportunity to make things worse.
A very large bond, which will most likely cost everyone about $300 or more a year is not a good thing. Many people have indicated doing this thing in increments. I think that has fallen on deaf ears.
I must remind all the citizens of Elmore County that this is a large burden to pay for. I urge all citizens to remember we have to pay for these things. Remember that when it is time to vote. I ask all citizens to remember to VOTE. That's the only way we know the will of the people. Keep in mind the hospital will also want a new bond this year as well. Gas will be over $4 a gallon by mid-summer and inflation will be rampant.
I could give you some more good news as well but I'm sure you understand.
Larry Heinen
(Editor's note: The bond would cost $14.59 a month for every $100,000 of taxable assessed valuation-- i.e. after homeowners exemptions, etc.)
