Dick Nelson
Dick C. Nelson, 63, of Mountain Home, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at his daughter's home, following an illness.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Grand View Mennonite Church. Burial followed at the Grand View Mennonite Cemetery.Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Dick was born Dec. 28, 1944, in McMinnville, Ore., was the son of Eugene and Eva Nelson. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, "mom and dad Tucker." Dick married Jeannette "Jean" Wilson on July 28, 1967, in Gresham, Ore., and together they had five children.
Dick worked for the City of Longview, Texas as a wrecker driver and a sanitation worker. He then worked for numerous farms in Eastern Oregon and was a tree farmer in Sheridan, Ore. In 2001, the family moved to Mountain Home to be closer to family.
Dick enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, riding horses and cattle. Dick was "a jack of all trades and a master of none," his family said.
Dick is survived by: his daughter, Patricia, and her husband, Ben Whiffen, of Mountain Home; his daughter, Tammy Nelson, of Grand View; his son, Richard Nelson, of Oregon, his sisters Linda, Fern and Geneva, eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette, his sons, David and Charles, and one brother.
