Two credited with saving life

Two Mountain Home men are being credited with possibly saving the life of a Bellevue man following an accident on I-84 near the east Boise port of entry Saturday.

A 1994 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Daniel B. Mercer, of Bellevue, was traveling westbound on Interstate 84. Mercer was driving at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the right emergency lane, and driving recklessly, according to the Idaho State Police, when he lost control of his vehicle, went into a broadside slide, crossed both westbound lanes and vaulted into the median, rolling his vehicle. Mercer was ejected and the vehicle came to rest on top of Mercer, pinning him.

Calvin May and Daniel Gallentine of Mountain Home stopped at the crash, and before emergency crews arrived, had removed the vehicle off of Mercer, "possibly saving his life," and ISP spokesperson said.

Mercer was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medial Center in Boise. His condition was not released.

ISP officials said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
