Joan Oak, 63
Joan Ellen Oak, 63, of Mountain Home, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at her home.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Joan was born on Jan. 13, 1944, in Branchville, N.J., to Albert and Viola Pittenger. She went to school and became a registered nurse.
On June 10, 1968, she married Richard Oak in Honolulu, Hawaii. She traveled the world with her husband during his 26-year military career. They resided in such places as Honolulu, Hawaii; Greenburg, Ind.; San Antonio, Texas; Phoenix, Ariz.; Buechel Air Force Base, Germany; and Mountain Home, where they retired from the United States Air Force in April of 1990.
Her husband then went to work for the Air Force as a civilian and the travels started again, residing in Sacramento, Calif.; Kessler Air Force Base, Miss.; Vogelweh Air Force Base, Germany; Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.; and then back to Mountain Home.
Joan worked as a recreation aid, teaching ceramics at many different locations throughout the world. Her other hobbies included traveling, gardening, cake decorating, cooking, bowling, outdoor activities and interior decorating.
Her daughter noted that with Joan's passing, "I lost my mom and my best friend."
Joan is survived by: her husband, Richard Oak, of Mountain Home; her daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Carlos Boada, of Mountain Home; her son, Bill, and his wife, Beth Oak, of Panama City, Fla.; three sisters and one brother, all from New Jersey, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both her parents.
