Elaine Schwager, 90
Elaine Sproat (Hitt) Schwager, 90, of Boise, formerly of Mountain Home, died July 28, 2007, from complications following a stroke.
A viewing was held Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Summers Funeral Homes in Boise. Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 2, at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Emmett, the daughter of Houston and Elizabeth Hitt. She was raised in Emmett until age eight when her family moved to Indian Cove. She attended high school at Hammett, graduating in 1934.
Later that year she married Wallace Schwager. They raised five children in Indian Cove where Wally farmed and ranched. Elaine cooked for the many hired hands on the ranch, making her famous cinnamon rolls.
In 1972 they retired and moved to Boise and spent 20 years as caretakers in Donnelly at the Little Valley Ranch.
She spent the last eleven years at Valley View Retirement. Elaine was the last surviving member of the JOC Club in Elmore County. She enjoyed reading many books with her ears, by participating in the Talking Book Program, through the Federation of the Blind.
Elaine is survived by: her daughters Ferne (John) Broderick of Bethesda, Md., and Linda (and the late Ron Yanke) of Meridian; her sons James (Tina) Schwager and Randall (Marva) Schwager, all of Boise; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Douglas, Wallace and Houston Hitt; two sisters, Beth Carpenter and Afton Jean O'Neal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, her son, Keith Schwager, a brother, Joel Hitt, and her son-in-law, Ron Yanke.
