Tiger track faces tough competition
The competition was very strong Friday and Saturday at the YMCA Invitational Track and Field Meet at Bronco Stadium in Boise.
In the girls competition, Mountain home's 4x100 meter relay team finished third. Francesca Hale, Sherica Holmon, Alyssa Saltzgaber and Emily Moranda made up that relay team.
Jasmyn Jewett came in sixth in the triple jump.
In the boys competition, Brandon Doble finished third in the 110 meter high hurdles and Nick O'Briant came in third in the high jump. Josh Driskell had a fifth place in the shot put.
Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi said the YMCA meet had plenty of good teams there.
"We were kind of down a few. It was prom weekend, so we didn't have a few athletes because of that, and there were some good teams there."
The Tigers hosted a JV track meet last Thursday against Meridian. Mountain Home won the girls competition, but lost the boys competition.
The Mountain Home girls ran up 88 points to best Meridian's 36 total.
Picking up firsts for Mountain Home were Anastasia Sansone in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles, Chelsea Garner in the shot put and discus, Jessica Furst in the 3,200 meter run, and LaNeesha Moore in the triple jump. Mountain Home also won all four girls relays.
LaNeesha Moore, Steffany Furst, Jessica Furst and Chelsea Bacon won the 4x100 meter relay, Jasmyn Jewett, Erika Castro, LaNeesha Moore and Lauren Moore won the 4x200 meter relay, Bre Sugden, Ashley Benham, Anastasia Sansone and Jocelyn Schrecker won the 4x400 meter relay, and Jasmyn Jewett, Erika Castro, Chelsea Bacon and Tanya Mckenzie won the 800 meter sprint medley relay.
Mireya Martinez finished second in both the 800 and 1,600 meter runs, Lauren Moore was second in the 100 meter dash, Tanya Mckenzie was second in the 200, Shelby Slone was second in the 3,200 meter run, Jocelyn Schrecker was second in the 100 meter hurdles, Ashley Benham was second in the 300 meter hurdles, Bre Sugden was second in the long jump, and Sarah Howell was second in the discus throw.
Finishing third for Mountain Home were Jaquelyn Hitesman in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, Alexis Howe in the 800, Jesse Cameron in the 1,600, Sarah Howell in the shot and Bre Sugden in the discus.
Meridian came out ahead of Mountain Home, 89-53, in the boys competition.
First place efforts for Mountain Home went to Tyree Harmon in the 110 meter high hurdles, Garrett Wood in the pole vault, Jacob Allies in the triple jump and Josh Driskell in the discus throw.
Second place efforts went to Chris Austin in the 300 meter hurdles and high jump, Jacob Viola in the 100 meter dash, David Tiddwell in the 200, Brett Kohring in the 800 meter run, and John Deal in the pole vault. Mountain Home also finished second in all four relays. Tyree Harmon, David Tiddwell, Tae Hon Paschal and Clive Lindsay finished second in the 4 X 100 meter relay, David Tiddwell, Clive Lindsay, Tae Hon Paschal and Eric Weiss finished second in the 4x200 meter relay, Brett Kohring, Tyree Harmon, Jacob Allies and Tyler Johnson were second in the 4x400 meter relay, and Billy Derome, Jake Posey, Matthew Bernyk and Keith Bonney finished second in the 1600 meter sprint medley relay.
Third place efforts went to Billy Derome in the 100 meter dash and shot put, Brett Kohring in the 200, Jacob Allies in the 400, Jovanne Carrizales in the 3,200 meter run, Chris Austin in the 110 meter high hurdles, Chui Kwok Lun in the 300 meter hurdles, Jake Posey in the high jump, Jerrod Sell in the pole vault and Jace Riley in the long jump.
"It was a fun meet," said Coach Urquidi of the JV meet. "It was a nice day and it was fun for some of those kids that aren't always in the top three or four, they got to compete. The girls did really well and the boys were right in there with Meridian."
The Tigers head to Twin Falls on Thursday for a meet that will have seven teams competing.
"Wood River will be there, Burley, Minico, Jerome, and of course Twin Falls, and Kuna and us," said Coach Urquidi.
