The Rev. Dr. John Schaefer, Jr., 71, formerly of Mountain Home, died March 20, 2007, in Omaha, Neb.
Schaefer was a former priest at St. James Episcopal Church in Mountain Home.
Services were held Saturday, March 14, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Omaha, Neb. Burial will take place Saturday, March 31, at 11 a.m. in Foxburg, Penn. Arrangements are by Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel, Omaha, Neb.
John was born on Aug. 3, 1935, in Pittsburg, Penn.
He attended Waynesburg College, graduating with a B.A. in 1957. He then went on to seminary at Bexley Hall, graduating with a B.D. in 1960, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1960. John also obtained an M.Div. from Bexley Hall in 1974, a M.S. HYG. from Tulane University, and later, a Doctorate in Education from the University of New Orleans. He had numerous certifications, honors and memberships, and published several papers.
From 1965-1972 John served as Director of Religious Activities for Touro Infirmary Hospital in New Orleans, La.
Throughout his career he served many churches, including churches in Houtzdale and Osceola Mills, Penn, New Orleans, La, Thibodaux, La, Pass Christian, Miss., and Mountain, Home.
He also did supply work in Mullen, Neb.
He is survived by: his daughter, Pamela Rahmanian (Fred) of Leesport, Penn.; his son, The Rev. Dr. John Schaefer III (Margaret) of Omaha, Neb; and his five grandchildren.
