Elsie Hitchcock, 89
Elsie J. Hitchcock, 89, of Glenns Ferry, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 17, at the Three Island Seniors Center in Glenns Ferry. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Elsie was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Kalmar, Sweden, the daughter of John and Ida Berg. Her family moved to the United States when Elsie was 18 months old and she was schooled in Jamestown, N.Y.
In 1936, she married Charles Hitchcock in New York and in 1946 they moved to southern California where she worked for Firestone making fuel cells for different types of aircraft during World War II.
Her husband, Charles, died in 1992, and shortly after that she moved to Idaho.
Elsie enjoyed being a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, making dinner for the relatives as well as for special gathering for the family or church, her family noted. She loved making chocolate cake and milk for the children after school. "Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
She was active in her church and with Sunday School.
Elsie is survived by: a son, Charles, and his wife, Lydia Hitchcock, of Glenns Ferry; a daughter, Connie Kohl, of Boise; six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hitchcock, three brothers and five sisters.
