Bob Smith, 80
Robert "Bob" D. Smith, 80, of Mountain Home, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at his home.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Bob was born Aug. 6, 1925, the son of Claude and Gretchen Smith in Nevada, Mo. He went to boot camp at Farragut and served as a boiler fireman in the Navy. In combat he handled 5-inch projectiles.
Bob moved to Idaho in 1950, first settling in Filer, where a sister lived.
He went into construction and worked for Peter Kewitt and Morrison-Knudsen, operating heavy equipment. He also worked on Mountain Home Air Force Base.
He left heavy construction and was a carpenter, a fireman on the railroad for a couple years, and worked as a millwright. His love was to prospect, his family said.
Bob is survived by: a daughter, Marie Carlon; a son, John Smith; his companion of 13 years, Laverne Schoen of Homedale; brothers Richard Smith and Gary Smith of Mountain Home; sisters Betty Shepherd of Twin Falls, Carol Brown of Caldwell and Doris Jenkins of Star; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.
