Marianne Bate has announced her candidacy for the office of Clerk of the District Court, ex officio, Auditor/Recorder of Elmore County.

She made her decision to run after being advised by the current county clerk, Gail Best, that she would not be a candidate for re-election.

Marianne was reared and educated in Mountain Home. She graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1971 and attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a BS degree in Education in 1975. While attending the U of I, she worked each summer for the City of Mountain Home Recreation Department.

After graduation she was the Gooding School District elementary physical education teacher from 1975-1976. Marianne returned to Mountain Home and spent many years working for Mountain Bell/AT&T and for Johnson Brothers Hospitality-Foothills Motor Inn.

She began her employment with Elmore County as Social Services Director in May of 1992 and has held that position since that time.

In 1996, she obtained a real estate license and works part-time weekends and evenings as an agent for Century 21 Southern Idaho Realty.

Marianne is active in the community and is a member of the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club, Beta Z's Civic Club, Mountain Home Ladies Golf Association, and is a charter member of the Mountain Home Fire Department Fireworks "Streetwalkers."

Because of her involvement with those organizations, Bate said that she is "aware of the problems that we face in Elmore County.

"Change is always occurring in government and we must be open to change" she said.

"I believe that two areas where changes will be made are the election laws and in the court system. Elected officials working in both of these areas realize that the public must be better educated and it is our duty to see that they are given the opportunity.

"We must try harder to get more voters to the polls on election day, and we must help people of modest means get through their problems in the court system."

Bate pledged to continue the open door policy and "excellent service" that has been a part of the clerk's office under Best.

She has worked on elections, has prepared the Indigent Budget for Elmore County, and works with the Board of County Commissioners on a continuing basis.

She pledged to "work with the staff and other elected officials to give the citizens of Elmore County the best service possible."

Marianne is a lifelong resident of Elmore County. Her mother Phyllis Bate, a local vocalist, is well known, and her late father, Ollie Bate, was a coach, math teacher, principal, and retired from the School District as the Title IX Director.

She welcomed any comment citizens might have on how to improve communication between the public and the office of the Clerk of the District Court.
