Tiger wrestlers win tournament
The Mountain Home Tigers had six champions in the annual Mountain Home Freshman-Sophomore Wrestling Tournament Saturday and the result was enough to help them win the tourney championship.
The young Tigers ended the day with 146 points to best Skyview for the championship. The Hawks finished with 130 points. Meridian was third, scoring 126 points, followed by Hillcrest of Idaho Falls with 104. Nampa finished fifth with 97, Caldwell had 73, Capital 65, Borah, 45, Jerome, 11, and Glenns Ferry, 8.
T.J. Billinger won the 98-lb. weight class, Nico Pinque won at 130 pounds, Cal Vivier won at 135, Ty Kleffner at 140, Colby Lord at 160, and Chris Knudson won at 171 pounds.
Finishing second for the Tigers were Travis Goldsby at 119 pounds and Tanner Carpenter at 152 pounds.
Kamron Spaulding took third at 130 pounds, and Marcos Hernandez was third at 140 pounds.
Nick Best finished fourth at 103 pounds and Chris Vogl finished eighth.
"It turned out to be a a very good tournament for the freshmen and sophomores that we have on our team," said Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson.
"I knew if we came out and wrestled like we needed to, we could do the job.
"We started the championship round a few points down in second place. We ended up with eight in the finals, and six of them came out champions, which gave us enough points to win it, so it turned out out well for us."
