Don Etter, 69
Donald C. Etter, 69, of Mountain Home, died Thursday, Oct. 27, at his home, with his wife by his side.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Rost Funeral Home McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Inurnment will follow after the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Clarence and Thelma Etter.
Don graduated from Pocatello High School in 1954.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Don met and married Jean Head on Aug. 30, 1958, in Pocatello. They lived in Alameda, Calif., where he was stationed.
After his honorable discharge from active duty he worked for the Bank of America for five years. He went to work for First Security Bank in 1964 and in 1970 he was transferred to Mountain Home as bank manager. He retired from the bank in 1983.
Don was elected mayor of Mountain Home in the fall of 1983 and retired from that position in 2000.
He was a member of the Christian Baptist Church of Mountain Home and the Mountain Home Lions Club, Protneuf Lodge No. 18 AF&AM, Royal Arch Mason Chapter #24, Scottish Rite, El Korah Shrine, and the Death Valley '49ers.
He served as the public member of the Idaho State Board of Accountancy.
He was an honorary member of the Gunfighters at Mountain Home Air Force Base.
Don is survived by: his wife, Jean, of Mountain Home; daughters Cheri Cornforth and her husband, Denis, Danese Etter and boyfriend, Chip Hosler, all of Oregon City, Ore.; four grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Savage of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother; John Etter of Death Valley, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital, Fairfax Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, UT. 84103, or the Christian Baptist Church building fund.
