Dorothy Hawkins, 77
Dorothy L. Hawkins,77, of Mountain Home, died after a long battle with cancer Saturday, July 23, 2005, in New Holstein, Wisc., while visiting her daughter.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and last until 12:45 p.m. Friday July 29, at the American Legion Hall Post #26 in Mountain Home, with services to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on April 7, 1928 in Cederville, Miss., to Hosea and Willie Laughter. Dorothy was schooled in Ciderview, Miss.
On January 15, 1948 Wilburn and Dorothy were married in Memphis, Tenn., and raised three children. They spent 18 years in the Air Force where they were stationed at many bases. They were assigned to Mountain Home Air Force Base where they retired in 1961. In 1970 Wilburn passed away and Dorothy continued her life in Mountain Home until her death.
Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star for 53 years and received an honorary pin for her 50 years of membership. She also held office as a commander of the DAV auxilary for two terms.
She worked for many years for the Civil Defense with Mrs. Whitney.
Dorothy was a joint owner with her son, Jack, at Jack's Body Shop in Mountain Home.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and helping her family. "She will be missed greatly by all who knew her," her family said.
Dorothy is survived by: two sons, Jack of Mountain Home and Floyd and his wife, Ellen; one daughter, Anita Hill and her husband, Dennis, all of Wisconsin; one brother, Clifton Ray Laughter of California; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; both parents, one brother and two sisters.
