Raymond Toombs, 84
Raymond Allen Toombs, 84, of Glenns Ferry, died Friday, July 8, 2005.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, at the War Memorial Hall in Glenns Ferry, with Pastor Don Woody presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Raymond was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Wyatt, Mo., a son of Edward and Jessmine Toombs.
He married Dorothy Palmerfield of England in 1946. They had two daughters. They were later divorced.
He married Wilma Hamby in 1967. She died in 1984.
On Dec. 21, 1991, he married Vonda Cooper of Glenns Ferry.
He served in the United States Air Force for 30 years and retired in 1970. After retirement he had a small farm he ran for several years. His main hobby was fishing and he had "lots of fishing buddies," his family noted.
Raymond was a member of the Fidelity Lodge #80 AF&AM, Victory Chapter #60 OES, Three Island Senior Center, and a life member of VFW Post #3646.
Raymond is survived by: his wife, Vonda Toombs; two daughters, Karen (Arnold) Hilden and Susan (John) Mathis, all of Tacoma, Wash.; stepdaughters Janie (Kenneth) Schanuel of Aviston, Ill., and Susan (Darrell) Brower of Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepson-in-law Willie Southern of Mantua, Utah; stepdaughter-in-law Margaret Cooper of Oklahoma City; brother Kennett Toombs, of Sikeston, Mo.; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grand-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Alan Cooper, stepdaughter Carol Southern, two sisters and one brother.
