Nelson Olds, Jr., 67
Nelson H. Olds, Jr., 67, of Boise, the former mayor and police chief of Mountain Home, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Extended Care Unit, of lung and brain cancer.
At his family's request, a celebration of his life will be held in June at Chico Cemetery, Chico, Calif. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise.
Nelson was born Oct. 31, 1937 at Trona, Calif., the son of Nelson and Margaret Olds.
Nelson served in the Orient on a Destroyer in the Navy from 1954 to 1958, afterwards moving to Mountain Home where he served 18 years in law enforcement, becoming police chief and and then mayor.
Later Nelson worked as Manager of Security at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Boise.
Nelson, having worked many years as a public servant, always enjoyed working with a variety of people, his family noted. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, dart tournaments and bowling.
Nelson is survived by: his mother, Margaret North, of Pocatello; son Wayne N. Olds and his girlfriend, Cindy A. Moser, of Boise; his sisters, Ina G. Hyde and her husband, Edwin, of Oregon, Kathleen P. Guenst of Magalia, Calif., and Jeanie L. Phares and her husband, Ron, of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson H. Olds, Sr., and step-father Virgil A. North.
