Timothy Downs
Dr. Timothy J. Downs, formerly of Mountain Home, died at his home in Grand Haven, Mich, Oct. 16, 2004, of melanoma.
His wife, the Rev. Denise Downs, and his daughters, Kristen and Lauren Downs, surrounded him at his death. His sisters and mother were with him as well.
Dr. Downs was a Family Practice physician having sub- specialized in surgical procedures. He practiced at Norton Family Practice (Norton Shores, MI) from 2001 to 2004 and was a member of the Hackley Primary Care Group.
Tim and his wife, Denise, were married in Columbia, Calif., on April 11, 1981.
Dr. Downs came to Norton Family Practice from Midland, Michigan where he practiced at the National Procedures Institute. Prior to Midland, he worked as a faculty member at the Beverly Hospital Family Practice Residency Training Program (Massachusetts) after leaving the military following 11 years of service. He served here in Mountain Home from 1958-1967.
His military career included serving with the Public Health Service while stationed with the Coast Guard in Boston. Prior to Boston, he was stationed in the physician shortage area of Koror, Palau, thus fulfilling a desire to work in underserved areas. Tim also served in the Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for three years. He received his family practice residency training at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL.
Tim had many interests including a love for "oldies" ('50s-'60s music), fishing, scuba diving, computers, refurbishing autos and being a general, all-around "fixer upper."
In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his parents, Carol Downs of Lodi, Calif., Dr. Joseph Downs (married to Jerry Ann) of Camano Island, Wash., his sisters, Maggie Hamley of Juneau, Alaska, and Susan Kuhn of Manteca, Calif., and ten nephews and nieces. Tim was preceded in death by his brothers James Downs (1972) and Paul Downs (1998).
