Jim Sims, 85
James "Jim" McDaniel Sims, 85, of Mountain Home, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in an automobile accident.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Jim was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Wetumka, Okla., the son of James A. and Mary V. (Ditzler) Sims. He was schooled in Hanna, Okla.
He moved to Idaho in 1936, and worked as a farm hand until he entered the U.S. Army. Jim served from September 1941 until October 1945. He received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart while serving in the Asian Theater.
In 1947 Jim married Catherine Tegarden and they lived in Steibnight and Blackfoot before moving to Cascade where Jim worked as a service station manager. In 1963, they were divorced.
Jim worked as a deputy sheriff for Valley County. He then moved to Deadwood and worked as a guard for 1st Security Bank before retiring in 1987.
Jim is survived by: his sons, Michael Sims of Mountain Home and Jonathan Sims of Lincoln City, Ore.; daughter Jean Schockey of Monmoth, Ore., 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers and a son, Roger M. Sims.
