LaVerne Gamache, 87
LaVerne A. Gamache, 87, of Mountain Home, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at a Mountain Home care center.
No local services will be held. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 14 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley, Wis. Local arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
LaVerne was born on June 28, 1916, the only child of Hjalmer and Lempi Saari in Butte, Mont.
Lempi died when LaVerne was a little girl and her father moved them to Ironwood, Mich., to be close to family.
LaVerne graduated from Ironwood High School and later married Nels Simonson in 1936. Their only child, Gail was born in 1942. Nels died in 1954.
LaVerne later married Alcedis Gamache in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1958, where they lived until retirement, when they moved back to Ironwood. Alcedis died in 1987.
LaVerne enjoyed being a homemaker, her family said. She loved doing all sorts of handiwork and crafts, and she spent hours sewing.
LaVerne was a member of the Hurley American Legion Auxiliary and the Hurley VFW Auxiliary.
In 1998, LaVerne moved to Mountain Home to be near her daughter, Gail and family.
LaVerne is survived by: her daughter Gail Best and son-in-law Donald, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Elmore County Extrication Unit, c/o Alan Roberts, 1640 Sunset Strip, Mountain Home, ID 83647.
