Dean Munk , 89
Lester "Dean" Munk, 89, of Mountain Home, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 25, at the LDS Stake Center in Mountain Home. Burial was in Boise, Idaho at Dry Creek Cemetery, Syringa Section. Arrangements were by Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel, Mountain Home.
Dean was born on Nov. 9, 1913, in Bennington, Idaho, the son of Lester and Winnifred Munk. He attended school in Grace, Idaho, and Boise Junior College.
He later enlisted in the Army and served three years, participating in the Java Campaign. After the war was over he returned to Montpelier, Idaho, and joined his dad in the sheep business.
In 1947 he met and married Margurite Hansen in Soda Springs, Idaho. Later Dean and Margurite were married in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to the Boise-Meridian area where they acquired a dairy farm. Due to health concerns, they sold the farm and he became a real estate salesman until his retirement.
They then moved to Idaho City and then to Mountain Home, where he resided until his death.
He was active in the LDS Church and served in many capacities. He also belonged to The American Legion.
He is survived by: his daughter, Margean Hoge Briggs, of Yreka, Calif.; sister Jessie Peterson of Peralta, N.M.; one grandson, one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; his sister-in-law, Ruth Munk, of Pocatello; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margurite Munk; his parents, Lester and Winnifred Munk; a son, DuRell Hoge; and his brothers, Steve Munk and Scott Munk.
