Shorty Engelhardt, 75
Francis "Shorty" L. Engelhardt, 75, of Mountain Home, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 4, at Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Shorty was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Chokio, Minn., the son of Ray and Muriel (Hagen) Engelhardt.
The family moved to Nampa when Shorty was three. He joined the Navy in 1945 during WWII, returning to Nampa after the war where he finished high school.
In 1947, he moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., where he learned the floor-covering trade. In 1955 Shorty came back to Nampa to work.
In 1956 he married Peggy L. Middleton. They moved to Mountain Home in 1959 and opened up Taylor & Sons Floor Covering. He then started Shorty's Floor-Covering in 1962. Due to health, problems Shorty retired in 1999. Shorty was a member of the Elks Lodge and a 36-year member of the American Legion.
His hobbies were fishing and hunting.
Shorty is survived by: his wife, Peggy Engelhardt; sons Timothy Engelhardt and Michael Engelhardt, both of Boise, Patrick Engelhardt and his wife, Beverly, of Mountain Home, and Kelly Engelhardt and his wife, Sarah, of Sioux City, Iowa; brothers Ray Engelhardt and his wife, Myrte, of Nampa, and Marvin Engelhardt of Nampa; sister Hazel Johnson and her husband, Clifford, of Ohio; eight grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Robert Middleton and his wife, Yvonne, of Boise, and Donald Middleton of Boise, and Carl Salomonsen of Nampa; extended family, Paul and Dale Walsh, Bruce and Ginger Morgan, Pam and Gary Swatzel, Eunice, Don and Terri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna, brother-in-law Sidney L. Middleton who was lost at sea in the submarine Thrusher in 1962, brother-in-law Keith Harder and sister-in-law Phyllis Salomonsen.
