Candidates file for office

Wednesday, April 10, 2002

There will be some significant races in the May 28 primary election, following the filing deadline last Friday.

The GOP state senate race features two current legislators squaring off against each other, plus one Democrat waiting to challenge the winner this fall, and five individuals seeking the District 1 county commissioner's seat being vacated by Craig McCurry.

McCurry is running unopposed for the new District 22 Legislative seat A, but the Seat B position has two Republicans battling int out in the primary and one Democrat waiting to challenge the winner this fall.

The filings represented the best turnout of Democrats in nearly a decade in Elmore County. On the county side, excluding the commissioner's race, it's almost all Democrats seeking office, with no Republicans taking up the challenge.
