It’s almost time for the Legislative Session...already
As you can see from this week’s opinion page, the Legislature is gearing up for the upcoming session that begins in January. As we continue to get closer to it, I expect to be receiving more and more opinion pieces from our representatives, talking about the topics that concern them the most and I plan to share many of those with you, especially the ones from our District.
However, not everyone you will see will be from our district, because I believe it is important to get information from both sides of the aisle and on a wide range of topics and currently everyone representing District 23 are part of the Republican Party.
I’m saying this because I want to clarify why you sometimes see guest opinions from Legislators of places like Hailey or Boise.
For example, infrastructure affects all of us and so I felt Senator Stenett’s piece should be included just the same as Rep. Blanksma’s piece on the Medicaid Expansion has been.
I don’t always agree one way or the other with the pieces of legislative opinion that I choose for an issue of the paper, however, I don’t believe it is my job to choose these pieces based on whether or not I agree. It is my job to provide our readers with enough information for them to make educated choices about the topics that will be decided on in 2020. I am here to provide our citizens with the knowledge they need to help them decide if they need to reach out to one or more of our district representatives to say “hey this matters to me, this matters to my family or it matters to my community, because of ... and I think this is something you should look further into for me as one of your constituents.”
