Thankful for the little things
This Thanksgiving I am reminded of all the things we take for granted on a daily basis, without every giving the thought of how thankful we are to have them. It is often said as long as you open your eyes each morning you have something to be grateful for. However waking up with that mind set every day can be very difficult. At least I know it can be for me. Sometimes because things go on in life that just make you grumpy and leave you feeling that things just are not fair. Other times it is because we are so busy running this race through life that we sometimes forget to sit down and appreciate all the good things we have.
I had purposely disconnect myself from social media and the news last weekend because of some things that had happened to me that left me reeling and thankful for the little things in life like getting a hug from my husband or having my eight year old come cuddle on his mommy’s lap. My self imposed disconnection left me unaware of the events that unfolded on Saturday morning in Grandview until late Sunday evening.
As soon as I logged onto Facebook I immediately realized something bad had happened at U.S. Ecology just from friends posts and it did not take long to find the whole story.
I was unaware of just how many people I know with ties to that company.
As I saw all the posts by parents, spouses and children happy to see their loved ones my heart broke for the family who did not get the chance to make a similar post.
Everyone at the Mountain Home News joins me in sending our deepest sympathies to the families, coworkers and the community affected by this tragic event. Our hearts go out to all of you.
Life can change in an instant. Dramatic change does not care if things are going great in every other aspect of your life and throwing you a curve wouldn’t seem fair. It also doesn’t care if you are currently down on your luck trying to scrape by before throwing you that knuckle ball either.
Life isn’t always fair and it is true to expect the unexpected, but no matter what is thrown your way there is always something to be grateful for everyday. Even if it’s just opening your eyes.
