How to Get Organized When You Live in a Small House
Living in a small house is a wonderful experience, but finding a place for everything we love to own can be a difficult task. Every small space has its challenges, but utilizing small homes can let us become creative and learn how to enjoy the space we live in. While living in a small home can feel a little cramped at times, there are strategies that anyone can use to help make a small home feel tidy and organized. Organization is an excellent way to make the most from our space, and it's a nice strategy that can make even the smallest rooms feel spacious. Here are five ways you can get organized while you are living in a small house.
1.Bench Items That Don't Currently Match your Home's Layout
Anyone who has lived in a few small homes will understand that having a limited space isn't usually the underlying problem in having an organized home. The real problem is that we often have more things than we really need.
While throwing away our favorite collectibles and toys may be a stretch, finding a storage unit is a great way to ensure that you can keep your favorite things without giving them away forever. There's no feeling like regretting giving away your favorite lamp, stereo, desk, or books because you didn't have enough space in your house.
By having a storage unit available, you'll allow yourself to be honest about what you need and what you don't. Heck, if you find that you need anything that's packed away, your storage unit will always be a short drive away.
2.Make a list of Items You Use
The first big step in organizing your home is understanding what you use every week and what you don't. While it's nice to have appliances and furniture available that we could need, we tend to ignore a large portion of the items that we have in your home.
Going through every room in the house and separating the things you do use from the things you don't use will give some much-needed space throughout your small house. This includes glasses, tea sets, pots, furniture, electronics, collectables, and books. Anything you don't use frequently isn't actually needed, and it's an excellent way to tidy up and organize your home.
3.Reorganize Your Home
Now that you have separated the items that you don't use from the items that you do use, it's time to reorganize your house around the items that you do use. This should help declutter a majority of the house and make your house feel more open and organized.
This strategy allows you to declutter and simplify your home to make it more organized, more spacious, and more usable. Even spaces like a home office or library can be stripped down and reorganized to become more functional while using less space.
After you have your home reorganized, look around the rooms where you have items that take up space. Brainstorm and see if you can combine things into a single space or find other ways to utilize the space that you've freed up across the house. By the time you're done with this step, you should have freed up some room across your house.
4. Look for Uses of Things You Still Want Around
While we can't keep everything that we'd like to in our home, we may be able to salvage some of our favorite items that are on their way to storage. Some items can be used to help organize the home and make it easier to maintain throughout the week. When we chose to get creative, we often find that we can make effective uses from our favorite items we currently ignore. So if you're looking for an excuse to keep something around, making it a valuable asset in your home will allow you to put it on display.
5. Make the Most of Vertical Space
Utilizing vertical space is another excellent way to keep your home organized and spacious in a small house. Whether you're looking for a shelf to place your books or a storage box that doesn't take up floor space, there are fun ways to make the most out of the walls throughout your home. Often times, we'll discover that the things we like to have around the house can be put up on the wall to save up valuable space while tidying up the home.
Using these simple strategies to organize your small house will make your home feel more spacious, clean, and organized. While there are challenges to having a small house, having a place that keeps us happy and relaxed will always be a place worth calling home.
