A marriage in the eyes of the government is a civil contract. If two people love each other no matter what their sex want to get married that can be done without the governments involvment. A committed relationship is a committed relationship. I know a few same sex couples that are married under a commitment cermony. Having the government legalize same sex marriage is so that both parties can enjoy the benifits of any other married couple like benifits from the work place and such. I can fully understand this and also support this. Who are we to judge whether this is right or wrong.

Years ago the dairymen and those making margarine battled that margarine should not look like butter, which ruins the dairymen's income.

Marriage is a word in our vocabulary. It has already been well defined as a union between a man and a woman. I don't care what the same sex people call their union; however the word marriage has already been used. Just like the butter/margarine controversy, they may look alike but they are different.

If a same sex union makes 2 people happy...is it really up to anyone to judge? We all have to live with the choices we make...good or bad...right or wrong. Live and let live. We have much larger problems than same sex marriage.

BettyBowers, One should be VERY careful when saying marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. That leaves the door open to brother sister, father daughter, mother son. You get my drift.

Buckshot, If I misread your comments and you do in fact full legal rights for same sex couples, I apologize for my statement.

This whole blog was an advocacy for the legal rights of same sex couples. There will always be those same sex couples who will go on and on about wanting to use the word marriage. Let them beat their collective heads against the wall. I will not support them in any way shape or form. Marriage, like I said is a religious ceremony.

I never said people couldn't judge gays. I did say that discriminating against them because they are gay is WRONG!

My apologies for the title. When I used the term judge, it was in conjunction with using that judgement to justify discrimination. Like I have said before, people are entitled to their opinions on this subject, but their opinions are hardly justification for legalized discrimination. Outside of the title, I believe I stated my case rather concisely.

Last statement, sexual acts between consenting adults is no ones business! Those that choose to bring children and or animals into those acts had best watch out! Have I left any grey areas?

It's possible that someone can transmit aids without knowning themselves, that they have it. And possibly got it the same way you are describing, Mike. I "get" what you're saying, but Aids is so widespread now, there's no telling how a person got it, or didn't get it.

In some states parental rights terminated because of being gay. That means they took someones child away because the parent is gay.

What about those children who were born gay, grew up gay and when in school were bullied and some committed suicide because of being gay? They were discriminated against to the degree of taking their own life. Gee they had a whole life to look forward to more discrimination, and they chose to become gay......LOL!

Buckshot61 I am undecided about marriage between 2 gays or lesbians because our Government has made this issue confusing. Surprising huh? coming from me a mom who has a gay son!

We now have gay couples who are allowed to adopt children so I'm not sure if they should marry because of the children and if they can't there should be some type of union for the sake of the kids, but I have no idea how it should be done.

Whatever decision that you make as an adult, will be judged on some level either by your peers or by God in the end.

Those choices that you make have an effect on not just yourself, but countless others during your lifetime.

We cannot make it fair for everyone simply because they have lifestyle choices that are different than what has been considered a law both legally and spiritually. The examples have been set into place for centuries.

What we can do and should do is love anyone as God would love them. We love our children, but don't always approve of the choices that they make. The judging will get sorted out in the end. And I imagine everyone will know the truth eventually as their time on this earth ends.

I will be honest and say that I can't wrap my mind around having a child who chooses to be gay, but I would never stop loving them, ever! I have one child who is mentally ill and it is a challenge some days on all levels for her and us.

God doesn't stop loving us, but we grieve Him when we do wrong. He knows what the outcome will be and the unhappiness that follows those wrong choices. He would like to prevent that heartache as much as possible. Thus setting an example and life instructions for our use.

To all being born gay is just as factual as being born an alcoholic, a subject I am well acquainted with. This my rant I have saved for people who feel being an alcoholic is a choice. It applies to being an addict or a gay person or a person with any mental illness. Enjoy.

My son didn't grow up to be suicidal, bullied and have to worry about hate crimes, he wanted to be GAY ? Give me a break who would want that??.. He was born that way (just like the Lady GAGA Song) I know I borne him........

For you Bonnie my son didn't choose to be gay anymore then your daughter chose to be mentally ill. You see I have both and I know more about the gays then anyone so far who has chose to leave comments on this subject.

I worry for both of my sons on a daily basis, when I don't hear from them I call, because there is always that fear in me.........

The sins of the fathers will be passed down to the 2nd and 3rd Generations. Iniquity is a generational thing. But you can turn things around if you choose to do so.

No she isn't and I have had first hand experience with Schizophrenia. It can be a scary and painful thing for both the person with the disease and their families.

My daughter has two types of mental illness; bi-polar and borderline personality disorder.

Bonnie, I don't know which is the scariest. When Christian loses control it can become very violent, and the remorse afterwards is heartbreaking. I have held him while he cried and kept saying how sorry he is. The meds help alot, but they don't always do the trick. I wish you the best of luck and prayers go out to both of you.

An update on Christian, he is doing ok in California, but he misses it here. His Mother took him to a Doctor who wanted to change his meds, most likely due to cost. I told her that if I had to I would go to California and deal with things if that's what it would take. The meds have worked very well for the last year, why change them.
