Potluck Sunday
It is a very cold morning here in Missouri and Spring keeps teasing us with a promise of flowers, budding trees and intermittent sunshine. However, I am feeling blessed beyond measure as I sit in my living room drinking my coffee.
It is Easter Sunday and April Fools day together again and I can tell you exactly what transpired on this day twenty-eight years ago. David and I shocked his family with the announcement of getting married and a wedding date was set for July 27th. (I didn't get the actual marriage proposal until later that afternoon.)
But on to other thoughts for today, if you will indulge me.
Our world today is filled with anger; demands for power and unimaginable pain. It is also filled with good people with selfless devotion to each other. I can't imagine what will bring all these good and wonderful people to the forefront when our daily news is filled with contention and personal agendas.
So, just for today; I am inviting all those who would like to participate in a potluck of sorts. Just bring your own special dish of blessings, positive words and willing hearts to the table and leave behind everything that keeps us from feeling the absolute peace of God's Love for us. We will not bar you from the table if you do not believe in God. We only ask that your heart remains open to a different kind of joy and love that you have never experienced before.
Actual potluck dinners are filled with wonderful smells and delicious food. There are so many varieties of casseroles, desserts and meat dishes to choose from! And the cozy and welcoming atmosphere is part of your exclusive dining experience! Imagine all the hugs and laughter people share as they sit down together and simply enjoy each other's company.
I have been blessed to experience such loving and cherished moments such as these and not only in a church setting, but also with friends and family. I truly do not have any special words or answers for those who want to pull away from the noise and confusion of the world. I can only suggest things that have made my own life more peaceful and joyful.
It does not matter if you are unable to bring food or table service to the table. Come and sit a spell and breathe in the air of genuine fellowship. The time has come for us to leave behind the woes and chaos of the world. And as always, let it begin with me.
Have a safe and joyous Sunday everyone.
