Alum Time
I used to get canker sores in my mouth often while growing up. My parent's cure for canker sores was a dose of Alum in my mouth. Alum is very bitter and immediately dries up your mouth. I can tell you that I would wait a very long time before I complained about a canker sore because the cure was almost as bad as the sore in your mouth!
There is an old wives tale that if you have canker sores, it is because you have told a lie.
I am thinking that there are surely millions of lies being told every minute of the day. I see people who look as though they have had the Alum cure or are silently suffering with a multitude of sores hidden in the depths of their mouths.
Our lives have been tumbled about these past few years with an endless amount of talk, speculation and finger pointing. I have ranted about talking heads and elected officials who create noise and chaos without ever resolving a social issue or fulfilling a campaign promise. And it will not get any better unless we find a cure for the canker sore that is palatable for everyone in society.
My theories on the cure for the canker sore would be to simply keep quiet. Step away from the painful sore and shut up! We already know that it is a canker sore!
Remind our elected officials that this is not about a political platform but doing the job that you took an oath to do. If you fail in four years to make a concerted change, move aside to allow someone else with fresh eyes and bigger muscles to take a shot at getting our country back on track.
Refuse to listen to any news network if they cannot or will not be objective in reporting the news. The American people are intelligent and can reason out the essential facts and and there is nothing is wrong with our hearing! The overflow of bitter and angry words are not helping us at all when we are trying to find a happy medium of information as well as finding our own cures for the social angst of the canker sore.
Our lives do not depend on the 6:00 news or the multitude of talking heads paid to make noise. Our purpose in life should simply be a blessing to others with our words and actions. Our woes will not be resolved with any political party steeped in corruption or the elected officials who have clearly lost their way. It will only be a better world when each of us individually choose to take our own personal inventory and resolve that our own words will no longer wound each other.
The final words of my blogs are often the most difficult to write. I type out dozens of thoughts and erase them just as quickly. So, I will try to leave you with a spoiler alert of things to come. Someone has already stepped in to fight our real battles. He loves us more than we can ever comprehend. The Alum for our canker sores will be made sweet in our mouths if we can begin to see each other as as God sees us.
