Precious Cargo
Over 2,000 years ago, a young couple was traveling on to a far away land. The journey was even more difficult because Mary was expecting a baby.
Mary was carrying precious cargo that year. Her life changed dramatically for such a young girl, but she was obedient to God. And Joseph took on something that most men would never choose to do, take Mary as his wife so that she would not suffer shame. He too, was obedient to God.
There are times when we are called upon to do things that will make others judge us. Without question, there has never been another event quite like this one and there never will be.
In this day and age, the argument of when life begins is a hot topic. If you believe as I do, babies are spiritually made before they are physically made. God gives us the blessing of life and it is our choice to accept that blessing or to destroy it.
Mary and Joseph had a great deal of courage for their time. They honored the gift of the precious cargo which had been bestowed upon them. Many of the modern religions say that the Christmas Story is just a myth. That there wasn't a spiritual conception or a virgin birth. I guess I am different from most people, I find it be one of the most awesome events in the History Of Man.
I don't believe that anyone can perceive the Great Plans of God unless they witness the beauty and joy of welcoming new life to this world. When we talk about accountability, it should start with the question, that we all argue about, how valuable is life from the moment of conception?
It should be more precious than all the gold in the world. We have failed two generations of children by telling them that life is expendable if they happen to be conceived by teenagers or irresponsible adults instead of a couple who made a covenant to each other.
As I have mentioned before, Mother Teresa said it best, "It is a Poverty to Decide that A Child Must Die So That You May Live As You Wish."
Christmas will be a sad event this year for many individuals, I too feel the tug of darkness and depression as I miss my loved ones.
But God entrusts us with Precious Cargo and I hope that we will always be up to the task. If not, there are those whose arms ache to hold a child of their own.
The Christmas Story has humble beginnings. Joseph and Mary were turned away from a warm comfortable place to stay. They many have not been blessed with the finest of silks, gold or other wealth, but can you imagine raising a child who was the Son of God? To witness first hand, the many miracles and the wisdom of Jesus?
I count my blessings with all of the precious cargo that I know. I love the numerous babies that have crossed my path. They give us all hope and teach us that the simple things matter more than material wealth.
This Christmas, pay it forward to young mothers, stressed families and strangers on the street. Be a blessing to all those around you. Continue the Christmas Story in your own homes by hugging your loved ones a little tighter.
