There's a Hole in my Bucket
There is an old song that goes: "There's a hole in my bucket, Dear Liza. Her Reply is "Well Fix it Dear Willy, you Silly."
The song goes one with Willy asking questions and Liza providing the solutions.
There is a hole in our bucket and the water is escaping fast. The obvious solution should be not to put more water in the bucket, but to plug the hole. Pretty simple right? Wrong. We keep hearing on how difficult it is to plug a hole and how someone will be doing without water if we do it using this method or that one.
As I read the responses to a blog this morning, my heart was full of sorrow. Not because hard words were being said, but because, we have a hole in our bucket and too many of us are still arguing on how it should be fixed while precious water is leaking out.
If you only had a rag to stuff in the hole, the water would leak more slowly, but still continue to decrease the contents of the bucket.
If you just put your finger in the hole, the burden in on you to keep it there like the little Dutch Boy in the Dike Story.
And then we have those who accuse each other about the hole came about in the first place. They certainly aren't helping stop the leakage either.
If we were in a Hollywood movie, the fairy tale ending would be that I have a plug that should just fit. And another person has some type of sealant to keep the plug in place. And there would be others to step forward to offer other materials to keep the bucket sealed and air-tight so that it could hold water again with no worries.
But we are not in a Hollywood movie and we are not coming together with the proper materials to mend the hole nor are we offering common sense solutions to plugging the hole.
The water in that bucket cannot be replaced at this point. The well is nearly dry and we need to find a way to keep our bucket filled with life-giving water.
You cannot continue to draw from a well is that is clearly going dry. And you certainly cannot deny that the hole in the bucket exists.
For now, we have some choices, but as time goes on, we will not have any choices concerning our livelihood. Hard questions need to be asked. And ask them from the TOP DOWN!
As Mitt Romney asked. "It isn't a question of what to cut, but what can we keep?"
I only quote him because it made sense to me. What can we afford to keep? Lawmakers who continually make simple problems complicated with outrageous earmarks on good bills being passed, thus clogging the process and costing the taxpayer additional costs and worry.
Can we afford to keep any leader who plays golf and goes to fundraisers for his own re-election campaign and then scolds others for not staying on the job?
Can we afford our own life-styles with huge credit card debt and living outside of our means?
Can we continue to keep promising aid to other countries who glad-hand us for the cameras and take the money for their own use and not the betterment of their poor?
Should we step over our own minorities to make some uninvited guests comfortable and educated just because they happen to be here?
And again, I ask the question? What can we afford to keep? Cut from the TOP DOWN. There is no other way to keep our own economy from sinking at this point.
Your lives are not dependent on a political agenda, it is dependent on you opening up your eyes and ears and really see what is transpiring before our very eyes. THERE IS A HOLE IN OUR BUCKET!!.
Only, when we choose to simplify our lives and our own personal finances can we begin to see a change in the attitude of others. Including those who have made a career being the front man for some nefarious hidden political agenda.
We cannot and must not allow slack in the rope holding the bucket at the top of the well!
There will always be a hole in our bucket as long as someone can make money from our present situation. As long as there are greedy men, fat checkbooks and clueless individuals; we will continue to have water leaking out.
They will try to convince you that the solution is at hand, but don't believe them. It is all smoke and mirrors and the dance partners may change, but the intent to pick pockets still exists.
We must cease injuring each other with our words and calling it a debate. We must cease denying that there is a problem just because someone is still promising the gravy train.
Willy had the questions and Liza had the solutions. What is your role in this song? Do you ask the questions or provide the solutions? Or are you the one who strikes a jarring note instead of attempting to harmonize with the other voices as they sing the melody?
