America the Beautiful-Women Who Served

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the very important role that women have played in the making America Great.

According to Google, 6 Million Women served their country in various ways during WWII. Some volunteered for USO or other morale boosting projects for our military, 200,000 joined the military and others worked in factories to keep ammunition plants running and built ships and planes.

Those are the written facts as we know them. But it is the unwritten sacrifices that are forever etched in the memories of those women who quietly served our country and never demanded to be recognized as a hero.

These women spent a great deal of time on their knees praying for the safety of all serviceman. They greeted them at each train stop giving them gave them fresh coffee and food.

Endless hours were spent in hospitals writing letters for serviceman, or providing essential daily care to the sick and wounded in so that the medical personnel were able to direct their attention to the critically wounded.

They planted "Victory" Gardens; knitted warm wool socks and rolled bandages. They provided childcare for the women who worked in factories. This might seem trivial to some of you or a little dated, but this was their own generous contribution to the War Effort.

As I read about the two World Wars, it was very evident as to how women played essential military roles that supporting the War Effort. A great many lives were lost in the transporting of airplanes from or from driving ambulances. Women were involved in secret operations to provide essential Intel from our enemies.

Men may have blazed the trails across the great expanse of America, but it was the women who tamed the wild with churches, schools and homes. They are the ones who kept a candle in the window to light the way home for weary broken soldiers and frontiersman.

You will never see the names of the thousands of women who set the standard for our own generation written in a history book. They didn't force themselves into the limelight of fame or demand a footnote in the pages of history.

No, their calling was much more noble than any history book could describe. They lived out their lives dedicated to their families, their country and their God.

We are a great nation because of their vision to make America Strong and Beautiful. It is because of their toil, sacrifice and mighty prayer that God has blessed America for over 200 years.
