We Are Off To See the Wizard.
Imagine that a Wizard who could resolve all of our shortcomings and provide us with rainbows and riches.
Some of us have been naive enough to think that a medal will give us courage or a diploma will give us a brain. We mistakenly think that in order to get back to Kansas, we simply have to close our eyes and tap our feet three times.
The Wizard of Oz was a magical mysterious person. He was held in awe by the residents of the Emerald City and by the Munchkins.
The journey to see the Wizard included many trials and tribulations. There were trees that moved and talked; a witch with an entire army at her disposal and flying monkeys to wreak havoc and mayhem and a field of poppies that lulled even the purest of heart to sleep.
And at the journey's end, The Wizard gave them a nearly impossible task to achieve before he would grant their requests.
It was Toto who managed to reveal the truth about the Wizard. He drew back the curtain and went bravely where no other person dared to venture. He exposed the Wizard for what he really was. Just a Con-Man, who had managed for a few years to fool the people of OZ into believing that anything was possible while he was in power.
The Wizards of our world have managed to portray themselves as wise people who can provide us with comfort, protection and wealth. But in reality, our Emerald City is just a green facade with a weak foundation.
So where do we go from here? Our house has already been lifted up from its foundations, The storms are coming at us at a rapid pace, leaving us fearful and damaged. No magic wand has been waved to ease our difficulties.
It is the Rainbow that symbolizes God's promise to us. For every storm that we experience in life, we can always count on the Rainbow to appear in the sky after the rain has passed through.
A mere mortal cannot take away the peace of that promise unless we allow them to do so. The Wizard has presented a bold front complete with token guards at the gate, but has failed miserably to gain the confidence of the majority of people.
There is no one in any of our political parties today who can save our country now. It is "WE THE PEOPLE," who must insist with great determination that our rights and freedoms be restored.
As for me, I will take the promise of the real Rainbow over a Wizard any day of the week. Like Dorothy, I realized that our way back home has been within my reach all along, I just had to believe.
