The Missing Dollar

Three businessmen went to Chicago to attend a big convention.  Not getting into town as early as they should have, they had a hard time finding accommodations.  

They finally found a hotel that had one room left, but it was a suite, and they would have to share it.  Single rooms were normally $10.00 a night (this was a LONG time ago).  So each man paid the desk clerk 10 bucks and they headed upstairs.

A few minutes later, the clerk remembered that a SUITE was a flat rate of $25.00, no matter how many guests were in it, so he summoned the bellboy......handed him 5 one dollar bills and said....."We accidently over-charged these guys.  I took 30 bucks from them and that room only goes for 25........HERE......take this upstairs to them!"

On the way up in the elevator, the bellboy thinks to himself, "How am I gonna divide 5 bucks between 3 guys?"

And then he thinks........"They don't even know they've GOT money coming back so I'll just give 'em a buck apiece, and pocket the other two, because they probably won't even TIP me anyway."

So, he gets up there, knocks on the door, tells them "We made a small mistake and you each get a dollar back."  They thanked him and closed the door (and sure enough-----they DIDN'T tip him)......that was ok with the bellboy.  He was happy, and so were the guests.

NOW.............The desk clerk originally took 30 dollars, each man paying 10 dollars apiece for the room.  After the bellboy gave each man a dollar back, they were only out NINE dollars apiece for that room, right?

3 times 9 is 27.  the bellboy kept 2 for himself.  That's 29.

What happened to the other dollar?
