.300 Winchester Mag's (WM) have also begun to finally overshadow the long range shooting community. I say 'finally' because the .308 has been the 800yrd gold standard for quite a while without a second thought to 'just how hard is that little .308 going to hit when it gets there?' The majority of M24 SWS's are chambered in .300 WM as opposed to the popular .308. Some are still most definitely chambered in the .308, but most real-world applications (and operators) go for the .300 WM.

I actually find the recoil to be a bit offensive without am aftermarket recoil pad. Muzzle breaks are also a nice addition, with several manufacturers adding them straight from the assembly line. The backdraft racket can be a little trying on the ears but I can always double up hearing protection, I can't continue shooting after a collar bone has been snapped.

All in all, I agree completely with the assertions of the .300 WM. In my opinion only, it's probably one of the best of the 30 cal series.

    Another fab write Zook!
