I didn't listen to the speech last night, but I have been reading reviews from several sources including USA Today.

They all seem to think it was more of a campaign speech than a State of the Union.

And you are right. ALL of them need to do their jobs instead of running for office. Regardless of party.

It might be cheaper if we sent them all home to collect their paychecks. Then at least we would be dollars ahead with all the expenses of WA.

I think we should tax our politicians on their campaign money and apply it to the national debt. They are always scrounging around for extra dollars.

I wonder if they would start inspecting the seat cushions on the couch for extra change, like we do.

They said before his speech last night that it was going to be more of a campaign speech since he was starting on his campaign.

Here's something else in case you missed it, he wants to stop insider trading among the congressmen. They usually get info on stocks before anyone else, but nothing will be done about it because it has to pass congress ........

BTW Speaker of the House sitting behind Obama wasn't wearing a flag pin... lol!

What the heck, I gotta stir the hornet's nest on this post. So here goes"

1. The whole taliban urination issue? Let's face it, these soldiers likely broke a few rules under the UCMJ. That's not to say I blame the all the Marines involved. I just blame the person who was stupid enough to record the event in question. In other words, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas type of thing. No video and the event never happened.

2. Liberalism is a mental disorder? Well, I have to dismiss that statement as just plain silly and adds nothing to the argument that President Obama isn't doing a good job of running this country. But believe what you will.

3. The rest of the post basically deals with President Obama saying something along the lines of "he will try to changes things with or without Congress". I watched the speech and I never got the feeling the President of the US was going to just change/make laws without going through the proper channels. My understanding of this portion of the speech was he was going to appeal directly to "the people" first. I could be dead wrong and President Obama may be planning to make himself a dictator. But I'm reasonably certain that's not going to happen.

The reason I bring up the above 3 items? Well, it's simply to point out that once you strip away the rhetoric, you're left with just an empty rant. And if that is what you, bazookaman intended, more power to you. You accomplished your goal.

Now if you really wanted to point out what went wrong in the State of the Union Address, I could understand bringing up some interesting items. Items like the President was not necessarily telling the whole truth in places, telling some out and out lies in others, and misleading the American public in a few other places.

Bazookaman: I'll go on record right here to say I don't think President Obama isn't doing a good job running this country. Pretty straight forward statement of opinion.

And as far as the recent In Session/Might Be in Session/Not in Session appointments earlier this month? While I don't think it was the correct way to do business, the DOJ ruled it wasn't illegal. But if you think this is the first shot over the bow for President Obama to claim the title of Monarch of the USA? I'll just say I don't agree. As I said in my 1st post, I don't think "his words" in the speech means he is going to start making laws. There are just too many checks and balances for this happen.

You make a good point when you say "WE tell our REPS what we want.....they try to tell HIM....and he just does what HE wants to do ANYWAY??"

But when has President Obama just made a law without Congress first passing the legislation? Maybe it has happened but I haven't heard of it.

Oh well, my 2 cents worth. I did not watch it, I had better things to do with my time than watch a political side show. Recess appointments. The Supreme Court will have the final word. There is nothing in the Constitution that forbids a sitting President from making changes to regulations that are not contained within a law passed by the Congress and signed into law.

I have stated my opinion on every President since Carter on Mikes Reagan blog. I'm pretty sure I didn't give a single one a pass.

One last thought, I get an e-mail that I'm sure several of you got also, and I made the following reply. The e-mail missed one crucial point. The Amish are also exempt from the provisions of the healthcare law.

I liked Reagan, I just don't worship him. Carter was a good man, just a lousy President. Reagan lost many points with me for selling arms to Iran.

Bush 1 was basically a decent President. Clinton had the morals of an alley cat, but in the end, after taking a more centralist position and working with Newt and crew, ended on a decent note. Bush 2, no comment that can be allowed here. Obama, I think he started off a basically good man with some very idealistic ideas. History may show him to be in the same category as Carter.

One last comment and then I'll do my darnedest to shut up for awhile.

In my not so humble opinion, the healthcare law should rightly be called "THE PELOSI-REID HEALTHCARE LAW". Those 2 and their cohorts in the House and the Senate wrote all 2700 pages. I would find it absolutely amazing if 1 person could write 2700 pages of steer manure in such a short time.

Bazookaman: You don't like the idea of the DOJ making a ruling on the (non) recess appointments by President Obama? What can we say other than that is the DOJ's job. Until another Department or branch of government decides they have the legal authority to smack down the President then it's a moot point. We don't have to like it but that's the way it is.

As far as the NDAA? From what I have read, this legislation as sent to the President was basically a veto-proof piece of paper. Something along the lines of a senate vote of 85-15 with more lefties voting against it than Republicans. I could be way off the mark as the source wasn't what I'd call extremely reliable. I'll leave the fact checking to you should you wish to understand how it all panned out.

And now you might have a heartache with the thought President Obama will eventually approve the oil pipeline but for all the wrong reason? Really, I could care less if he approved that oil pipeline because he though Stalin would have wanted him to do so. Do you know what 2,000 - 20,000 jobs for the wrong philosophical reason means to me? 2,000 - 20,000 people with good paying jobs. Politics is a way dirty game.

She was asking him for another meeting and he made reference about the way she portrayed him in her book about that previous meeting. They walked away from that first meeting 2 years ago with good feelings and then she comes out with the book saying otherwise.

The point I'm trying to make is, there was a legal ruling and no other entity has stepped up to overturn the decision made by the DOJ.

The actions President Obama took, while not politically correct and very underhanded, appear to be quite constitutional as of this moment.

Well, it's not exactly a secret that I'm not thrilled with Obama. BUT

I've seen that photo. My take is, he does have his hand on her arm, but it doesn't look threatening in the least to me. If I walk up to someone, I may (or may not) rest my hand on their arm/shoulder/whatever, in a friendli-ish way. If you want to analyze that photo further, his face dosn't look intense, ...he actually looks like he might be grinning with her. Not at her. And his left hand is relaxed.... if he were angry/tense, it MIGHT be clenched, but it's not.

Now with this said, I could be wrong, but it looks fine to me.

With 24 million people out of work, 2.8 million have lost their homes, and job growth of zero for his time in office I think he will be seen as a complete failure along with congress.

I heard on the radio, I think, may have read it, that the number of people with jobs when Obama took office was 140 million and last week that number was 140 million. It's projected to be 140 million when he leaves office next year if he does.

This says unemplowment is actually 25%. It's hard to keep track of how unemployment is actually calculated.

As far as "conflicts of interests" go, ALL votes are a conflict of interest. NO ONE votes against their own self interest. Receive ANY kind of government monies (Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, State or federal employee, active duty, retired military, Guard, Reserve, postal employee....etc) according to this you shouldn't vote, conflict of interest. Own a gun? Don't you DARE vote for the candidate that the NRA endorses...conflict of interest. Own a business? Don't you DARE vote for the pro business candidate...conflict of interest.

So my question to you is, If according to you it doesn't exist, why are you so willing to punish those that don't have it?

To tie someones right to vote to their socioeconomic standing is just plain wrong. To do so condemns that person and future generations to mediocrity. What's next? You need a bachelors degree to vote, Masters Degree? Maybe only Phd's should be allowed to vote?

The measure of a persons right to vote should be their citizenship status. Citizens vote, non citizens don't. Simple concept(felons and the mentally ill notwithstanding). It doesn't matter if they've been a citizen for 50 years or 5 minutes.

The right to vote is a cornerstone of American principles. Wars have been fought to preserve it, countless lives have been sacrificed to secure it. For this generation to even CONSIDER, much less advocate, curtailing this based on our petty prejudices, biases and fears shows just how far our society has fallen.
