Who in Their Right Mind Would WANT to Run?

In the hard right circles I move in, I've often heard (until I'm TIRED of hearing it now).......how "we haven't had an honest-to-God leader in that White House since Reagan was President)."

While nobody will get any argument from ME about that, it pains me to believe that we'll NEVER get anybody good in there ever again....from EITHER PARTY.

The main reason I say that?

The media.....and THAT comes from both sidea as well.

Let me give you a good example (SCENARIO) if you will.

LAMONT & I have decided we've had enough, and we're both tossing our hats in the ring to run for President.

Let's SUPPOSE (just for the sake of "supposing"), that we each have gathered up large enough "war chests" and enough names on petitions to get our names on a ballot..............

He's running in the DNC....and I'm with the RNC, as you'd expect from both of us by now. We also run clean campaigns because we don't get personal with each other NOW....and we wouldn't in the future either.

He grew up in the streets of New York City and I grew up in the streets of San Francisco.

Once TODAY'S media found THAT out in the "vetting process", they'd track both of us all the way back into the "birth canal."

Now.....I don't care WHO you are........there's NOBODY out here that has "nothing to hide." Every ONE of us has done SOMETHING that we'd rather not let everyone know about.

I cannot speak for Lamont.....but I have PERSONALLY admitted to have been a young thief back on Potrero Hill. The MEDIA would dig back to my "hubcap days" and make an issue that I couldn't be trusted because of my "thieving background."

SOMEBODY looking for THEIR "15 minutes of fame" might come forward and tell the press that they remembered me lighting firecrackers and stuffing them though the air vents of somebody's wall-locker, on the 3rd floor of my high school.......which the "Times" would pick up on and brand me as an "arsonist".

Being nailed by the cops for drag-racing in the streets of Fremont, California, would be displayed on CNN for having "no respect for law and order".

Because I ran with a gang on Potrero Hill, the Chicago Tribune would label me as "associating with known terrorists!"

Being hauled-in by the Shore Patrol in San Diego for being "drunk & disorderly" would surely become a campaign issue with the press......"lack of self-control."

The fact that ALL of this crap happened 40 to 50 YEARS AGO is IRRELEVANT to what kind of job I'd do TODAY (after MATURITY & RESPONSIBILITY)....but it has reached a point in this country where NOBODY judges you on your ACCOMPLISHMENTS, and it's caused potentially GOOD political candidates to drop out....or WORSE....not even RUN to begin with.....because of the MEANINGLESS crap that the "press" MAGNIFIES---as if it really MEANT SOMETHING 50 years later!

LAMONT grew up in the streets of New York. Our private discussions have shown BOTH of us to have a lot of similarities. As a democrat......FOX would be after HIM, and if HE had a parking ticket or moving violation......they'd find a way to make THAT some sort of issue.

In short....I think we've probably seen our LAST real leaders. Nobody DECENT wants their lives and their families dragged through the public mud.

To those who DO run......the mere thought and concept of "POWER" overides family & self.....all they hope to do, is to make it through the process "LESS CHOPPED-UP" than the "other guy".

You can be the "MODEL" American citizen.......and potentially do a fantastic job for this country, but whether you're nine, or SIXTY-nine....EVERYBODY has SOMETHING to hide, and whatever it is....now matter how insignificant it might be........you can BET it'll be a HIGHER PRIORITY than anything you might have ACCOMPLISHED later on in life!

So, when you look at a group of candidates on either side today....and you wonder to yourself....."doesn't anybody GOOD want to run?"

More and more....the answer is a resounding NO!
