How To “Cap Off a Gun Blog”
With one on cap PISTOLS, of course. A recent response by "oldcoot" got me to thinkin'........(and that happens on occasion)........maybe it WOULD be a good idea to profile cap pistols a little bit, since they'll soon be a thing of the past.
Once upon a time in LONG AGO America....before all the fruitcakes who are trying to run this country, decided that "Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer isn't fit for children anymore "because" it's a story about "bullying".............
The "Grinch" is a derogatory message of prejudice and profiling against people who are of different color (in this case, GREEN).......
We aren't supposed to use the term "Merry Christmas" anymore because it might OFFEND those who don't believe" (and if that's the case----shouldn't THEY have to work on the 25th?....after all, the birth of Jesus doesn't constitute a "holiday" for THEM, does it?)
And toys like little rubber army men, tanks, and cap guns "all promote VIOLENCE" and need to be banned!.........(ever watched any of the VIDEO GAMES your grandkids are playing today??)
,,,,,,but CAP GUNS are "violent".............uh-huh.......
I grew up with cap pistols, and also around REAL guns that my dad always had, got some REAL TIME "on the job training in the Corps,....have been shooting ever since, and I've YET to have made it on a "wanted poster" anywhere.
Of course, one must remember that in the 50's & 60's, a good "butt-warming" when you NEEDED one...didn't constitute "child abuse", and prisons back then weren't OVERCROWDED lie they are now!
Liberals should be deported right along with the illegals. They really should.............
Enough of that.....
The movie star cowboys were everyone's heroes. The guys with the white hats, bringing the bank robbers and horse thieves to justice, and there was always a positive message for us kids who took in the Saturday double-features at the movies. The toy makers also helped us be "just like our heroes" by making cowboy hats, vests, chaps, boots.....and of course CAP GUNS like this Gene Autry rig that Donna bought me for my collection last Christmas-----------as in.....
CHRISTMAS!!.....not "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings".......CHRISTMAS!!...........don't like it?? Tough! Go take a long walk on a short pier!
Every kid in the neighborhood had a favorite. Mine was Roy Rogers.
You could buy 5 rolls of caps for a nickel back then and you got about 150 shots. We had a lot of fun, and we knew it was all just make --believe, and we didn't grow up to be a bunch of psychotic killers later on because of it! We took turns being the good guys or bad guys....and the BAD GUYS always LOST! That "crime doesn't pay" thing was a good lesson for us.
If you were a "Lone Ranger" fan.......companies like Marx & Mattell were there for ya! I found this Lone Ranger double-holster set on EBay......(I've actually bought REAL guns for less money than what some of these old cap pistols can bring today!)
The little "double-barreled tin" ones were popular too. About $1.98.............THEN! But the one NEXT to it was really special.......
I was about 9 when we moved to Potrero Hill, but before THAT, we lived out close to where Candlestick Park is now. There was a little Greek kid named George Sardonis who I used to play with, and he had this "ivory-stocked" double-barrel Pirate cap pistol he'd let me play with sometimes. For some reason,I never forgot the image of that gun. About 3 years ago, THIS one popped up on EBay, and it's location was at an antique shop in San Bruno.......not far from San Francisco.. I had no idea (and there's no way to find out after 55 years), if this just MIGHT be George's old cap pistol. But nostalgia just grabbed me by the throat, and I HAD to have this pistol, no matter WHAT I had to bid for it.
As I recall.....I think I was the ONLY bidder and I think I got it for 40 bucks or so. When it got here and I took it out of the "bubble-wrap", I actually felt myself starting to get "misty-eyed", and I'm not ashamed to admit that. It's in great shape & works perfectly, and when I held it out and aimed at a tree out back..........for a few brief seconds, I was back on San Bruno, where George & I were running from our "good guy" friends (after all---WE were the "pirates"-----the BAD guys!)''
I contacted the seller to try to find out if maybe he'd gotten it in his shop on "consignment" by an OLD GUY named George Sardonis.......(grasping at straws, really)....but he said he'd picked it up at a garage sale.
So, who knows.........
But oldcoot.............ya just struck a chord, man!
PS.....as we speak, there's an old metal toy "space ray gun" for sale in an antique store in Boise. Been lookin' at it off & on for a year now.....but I'm still not ready to pay $370.00 for it----(and it's not exactly in "pristine shape).
I think I might share some of the other old stuff I've collected to "retain" what "used to be in my life" in my next blog, maybe.
But I've gotta tell ya........when we're out shopping and looking at "Christmas toys" ("ooooooh----there's that NON "PC" word again!"), and I look at all this cheap crap made in China, Taiwan and everywhere else..........somehow, I just don't see them ever becoming something that OUR kids or grandkids will want to collect 50 years from NOW!
Ya know what?........now that I'm really in the "yester-groovin'" mood.....I think when I get back this afternoon, I may just have to get some of that old stuff out to share, and we'll take a little trip back down memory lane!
Later!
