Bet Ya Never Saw One of THESE!!
When you think of "Daisy" as it applies to rifles, what's the first thing that comes to mind? "Ralphie" in the "Christmas Story" maybe?.............the old Daisy (you'll shoot your eye out) Red Ryder BB gun?
Daisy's been making air rifles and pistols for close to a century. Did you know they also made REAL guns?.........neither did I until a couple of years ago. From 1990 through the first half of 1992, they tried their hand at marketing a little 22 caliber rifle, known as the Daisy Model 2202, complete with an official Daisy scope!
The shop out there bought one from a guy about two years ago, and when the shop owner told me about it, the first thing I said was what MOST people would have said............"Daisy never made a 22--------they're BB-gun people!........well. it's a good thing I didn't place any BETS on that! He went into the back room and brought it out, then we looked it up in his gun atlas. Sure enough the Daisy 2202 was indeed made for about a year and a half. The short production run was a pretty good indication that it wasn't very successful, and after that they just stayed with BB-guns.
Well.........it wasn't/isn't much of a rifle, but it's the only one I'VE ever seen in all these years of shooting, and it was cheap enough, so I HAD to have it for my collection.
At the range, it wasn't hard to see why they quit making it. It was probably a 50-dollar rifle at best, sloppy fit between barrel & wood, strange bolt set-up.....and if you hit anything with it, it was purely by accident!
I think I paid around $100.00 for it, but RARETY-wise, it was worth every penny, even if you WON'T ever win any rifle matches with it!
It is so little known, I've sometimes been tempted to bring it up in various circles until somebody decides to bet me money that there is "no such thing!"
I don't know how many they made in that year & a half, but I'll bet that MOST of them don't even EXIST today, and ended up in public dumps or recycled for scrap metal.
I'll most likely never shoot it again------waste of good ammo. But it IS a pretty interesting "conversation piece!"
