A “Few of my Favorite Strings” Part II
Besides the fact that I've been playing for 42 years this coming November, I've tied up too much money in guitars over the years to have to STOP playing! Earlier this past spring, I got 'em all out to photograph them for insurance purposes
I'm very blessed that Donna puts up with me. A lot of gals might not have! To be fair though, I already owned half of these BEFORE we met:
My first guitar. Bought in in November of 1969 from Montgomery Ward for $35.00 and while it's not that great of an instrument, you have to start SOMEWHERE. I'd never part with it, though
This little German-made Hofner 171 was my first "stage guitar" when I started playing at the NCO Club in San Vito, Italy. It too, is very special to me.
There is no brand name on this one, except inside where it is stamped, "made in Germany, Serial # 810. " I bought it in 1977 from a Boise pawn shop for 40 bucks and it plays better than some guitars I've paid ten times more for.
Gretsch 5120 Electromatic. I bought this one in 2004 when I first started playing lead guitar with Curly Surles.
Gretsch resonator, bluegrass guitar (this is the one I played at Weiser.)
Takamine EF381SC 12-string. Donna gave me this for Christmas in 2005
Artist Ltd guitar. Not much on its own, but priceless to me. If you'd ever been to Scrubby's, you've seen it and maybe even heard it. Jim Birchfield's widow, Karen, gave this guitar to me in 2005.
Kona (made in Texas), this is the one I play in church on Sundays
Epiphone J-200. Dollar for dollar, one of the best guitars I've ever owned.
Orpheum 1942 vintage oldtime resonator. Made in Germany with South African Jacaranda wood. Very unique sound and you don't see one of these every day. Donna bought it on EBay for me.
Epiphone "Joe Pass" Emperor II. (Joe Pass was Ella Fitzgerald's lead guitar player).
..................................NOTE...............the last 4 photos don't seem to want to post..........I can either start this one over from the beginning, or try to finish this up on "Part III"
I'll try THAT..............JESSIE, where are ya?
