“Toys in the Attic”
That was the title to a song a few decades back. It's also a follow-up to a post KH Gal & I were just discussing. We were talking about the old toys, and how they "date" us. I mentioned the old Tonka trucks, that I have "RE-collected" again....but I thought I'd share a few shots of one of my old metal MARX trucks from the 50's, and it is part of an extensive Roy Rogers collection of mine.
In real life, Roy had an air-conditioned trailer for his famous palominos, Trigger and Trigger Jr.
Well, among the cap pistols, wristwatches, snapshot cameras and dozens of other "Roy Rogers" toys, If you had any of his HORSES in your playground collection, you'd darned sure had better have a way of TRANSPORTING them! And the old MARX Toy Company in New York made sure that you did!
Roy often did car commercials for Dodge, so I believe that's probably why the "Dodge truck was chosen for this toy. (Not sure of that, but it's my best guess today).
And these old toy trucks weren't plastic Chinese "Wally World specials" back THEN, buckaroo! I didn't have one of these when I was a kid, but I didn't mind spending the bucks for one today, and THIS one was over $300.00 a couple of years ago, but makes a very nice addition in my "R.R. cabinet". And it's the genuine article.
To those of you out there you aren't old enough to have lived back in this era......."toy collecting" might seem a little silly, but when you've "been there", and the only REAL world you knew is gone now, and you find yourself surrounded in an ever-plastic environment today that you no longer understand........a touch or two of the good times makes PERFECT SENSE! Just like an occasional cruise in that old black Olds.............it's "therapy for the soul!"
Happy Trails to you!
