A “Loose” Colt and a “Tight” Smith
Quite awhile ago back in my blog archives, I wrote the story of "Shady Lady", about the Colt 38 Police Positive revolver with the 3 notches in the handle, that had been owned by that ill-mannered lady who refused to tell the cops where that gun had been.
Now that I've learned how to post photos, I went back through them and dug up a few shots. If you don't remember, or have NEVER read that post, you'll find it interesting to say the least. Just go back into my "archives" and punch up "Shady Lady."
This gun is shrouded in a mystery that will never be solved, and gives a unique representation of the old term "loose cannon".
On this same photo disc, is one of my prized pistols, a Smith & Wesson Model 25, in caliber 45 Colt. It is one of those guns that has an "early cut" barrel right from the factory and it shoots good tight groups. A powerful revolver, yet fairly comfortable to shoot, if you enjoy shooting big bore revolvers........which I do.
The old Colt still shoots just fine today.........we just don't know WHO!
I have several of these big "N" frame Smith & Wessons, but I particularly enjoy shooting this "45"
As with all newly-acquired guns, you initially have to make up & down/left-to-right sight adjustments until you get it "down the middle." Once the sights were "dialed-in", I ran two more cylinder loads through it and pretty much shot the center out of the target. Smith & Wessons--------they cost what they cost, 'cause they ARE what they ARE!
Not every gun I own shoots real bullets......some are very old and shoot caps, like this 1950's Gene Autry cap pistol that Donna bought for me on EBay.
I already have some Roy Rogers and Lone Ranger cap pistols, but was missing a Gene Autry. In the 50's, these cap pistols might have cost mom & dad 5 or 6 bucks (WITH the holsters). Today........with nostalgia running wild in this country, sometimes a certain cap pistol can cost as much or MORE than a REAL ONE!
A year or two ago, I saw a twin-holster "Hopalong Cassidy" cap gun set in a Boise antique shop, tagged at $1100.00-------------a week later it was GONE!
Antique collecting:---------your grandmother bought it.........your mother threw it away........now you're buying it back!
