"Ferd the Nerd"

"Ferd the Nerd" is a ficticious name on this blogpost, but a real character just the same. And you ALL knew him. Every one of you out there either knew him personally, or at least knew who he was.

"Ferd" was that skinny little kid in school with the dorky-looking clothes and "coke-bottle glasses" he excelled at nothing in sports, was shy around girls, so he pursued a good education because THAT was something he COULD do well.

He had no real buddies to run around with at night, and didn't go out by himself for fear of being beaten up, (on Potrero Hill, anyway).

While we were drinking beer and writing grafitti in the boy's room, "FERD" was drinking lemonade at grandma's house and writing his next THESIS.

When we were at the drive-in with our girl friend, trying to "score"..........HE was sitting out in his kitchen trying to raise his MATH score.

Most of us lost track of old "Ferd" after high school. A lot of us went into the service, many just went out into the civilian work force, and a few went off to college.

"Ferd", unknown to US, finished college with such a high grade-point level, he easily found a job as a young accountant or something like that....usually with a good firm.

He had denied himself all of those "GOODTIMES" that WE had, at the "sock hops", football games, the pool halls and "tailgate parties," as he applied himself to other endeavers.

Maybe he was a chemist or engineer----designing and inventing things that we all take for granted today, or a skilled surgeon that we might depend on to save our life in the middle of the night.

Maybe he was a MATH whiz who helped guide a corporation into the "atmosphere", and put a lot of people to work. I may even have WORKED for him 30 years later and never knew it.

Mike Bradbury spent HIS time doing "just the minimum" to get by in school.

Mike Bradbury would often sneak out late at night, and pilfer things with his "Hooligan friends."

For Mike Bradbury, STUDYING took priority over PARTYING

So......when Mike Bradbury got out of the Marine Corps, he labored in warehouses and lumbermills.-------then went back into the service because he wasn't "qualified" for anything better.

At the end of his military career, Mike Bradbury still had to go out and find work that he was only "qualified" to do. It was always good, honest work....but usually phtsically demanding.

You make your own bed. When the opportunities are there....and you'd rather go "play", you have to look in your own mirror to properly "afix blame", if that's the case.

Our old high school classmate "Ferd" is now a CEO---probably a millionaire, because he wasn't lazy, he wasn't a "screw-off"....

HE strove to achieve

While I strove to "thieve"

It's 2011........"Ferd" and I have burned up over 60 years. He's rolling in dough today. Am I JEALOUS of that, or do I "DESPISE" him for it?

No. He DESERVES what he has because he's WORKED for it. Mike Bradbury never DID, nor ever WANTED to put in the time and desire it would take to really become a success.......What Bradbury was doing was always "good enough to get by"

Few things in life are TOUGHER than an honest self-appraisal.

When I consistently hear this "TAX THE RICH" crap, I always see that "faceless" old "Ferd." I can't see his face, but he's out there. He's out there making that money.........and he's also HIRING PEOPLE to keep his company going.

Most of my life, I've worked for people RICHER THAN ME.............I mean, HOW else would I have a job?

Obama gets on the "tube" the other night and calls for "sacrifice." (I should have been wearing my tall boots).

He never called for any "sacrifices" from his overpaid and overperked CONGRESS!

He never called for cutting into any of the "UN-entitlements" we talked about!

Most people do not know that the "rich" ALREADY PAY the lion's share of the taxes in this country, and if you've ever worked for a company with health & retirement benefits.....401K & all...........who do you suppose pays the bulk of THAT? The EASTER BUNNY?

All the REGULATIONS, EPA adjustments and plant modifications you never see...........who pays for THAT? The POOR??

If you've ever gotten a job, it's usually because of some "rich guy".

Many despise "Ferd the Nerd" because he HAS-------and we HAVEN'T............."It isn't FAIR"........we should tax HIM some more, to make up for our government's INABILITY and UNWILLINGNESS to handle our taxdollars.

Obama talks about "sacrifice."............I tell you all right here, that the greatest sacrifice a person can make is time out of his/her life. Because TIME is the one thing you can never get back. NEVER.

Most of our fondest memories come from our teen years, 20's and 30's, etc. "Ferd" sacrificed the fishing trips at the lake, the beer parties and senior proms that we all enjoyed.

OK, so he's rich today. If I'd been DESIGNING cars instead of stealing HUBCAPS off of them, I might be wealthy today as well.

I don't "begrudge" that little bookworm his bank account today. Most of what we HAVE today is because of the "rich people." The ones who've taken the risks, invested the money, and BINGO........you have a microwave oven, a plasma television or a new Lincoln.

And you have a JOB, as long as "Ferd' can afford to hire you....or KEEP you.

The Dems need to get OFF this "Polly-the Parrot" chant of "TAX-THE-RICH......TAX-THE-RICH.......BAWK-BAWK......TAX-THE-RICH......TAX-THE-RICH!"

NO!!!............STOP trying to support the REST OF THIS PLANET-------and the bums HERE who don't want to support THEMSELVES.........all the CRAP programs nobody understands, all of this MASSIVE monetary help for the illegals......

And we'll HAVE the money we need to pay off the debt (without having to keep socking it to the working man!)

And we DON'T need to go to Mars or Pluto or anywhre ELSE out there (Obama WAS right to stop THAT)..........hey, I give credit where it's due.

A final thought here.........a LOT of you of there on BOTH sides seemed to support the LOCAL idea of just the PROPERTY owners being allowed to vote on these LEVIES, (which is only right, since it is WE who have to pay for it).

Well............nearly HALF of the U.S. Population pays NO taxes at all!.......................well....................maybe only the people who pay TAXES should be allowed to vote in our state and federal elections!

I mean......after all, the NON-taxpayers have no vested interest in having to FOOT THE BILL for all this garbage.

But they get to ride on OUR backs, don't they!!

(Donna reminded me that a move like that would be against the Constitution).

I replied to her......"Since when does THAT mean anything around HERE today??"

She just smiled.

I can see some of what you're saying my friend. That being said, I do take issues with companies using their wealth to hire the lawyers and lobbyist to write changes to the tax code that benefits only them. These lawyers and lobbyist are tax deductible of course. Then said company makes 36 Billion, pays no income tax, and gets a huge tax refund! Many of the wealthy have tax loopholes written for them that the average taxpayer could never use. I think Warren Buffet, you know the multi-billionaire, has it right. It is down right wrong, based on percentages, that he pays less of his income in taxes than his secretary. I agree it is wrong. I agree that we give away too much money. I'm ticked that the politicians stole our social security money, then have to borrow to make their debt to us good, but expect us to foot the interest bill. Congress is overpaid! Outlaw them from making any money while in office other than their salaries. Outlaw the practice of them giving themselves raises. Take their fixed pensions and convert them into 401K's. They darn sure will make sure the economy never tanks again!

It's late and I need to make dinner for the wife and me. I'll add more tomorrow if you like.

CHANGE SUBJECT A MINUTE.......i have a friend here in town that is being driven into insolvency for health care......and we havnt got to treatment yet just test.....yes he is insured and so is his wife......why are we paying $ 1800.00 for a hospital bed for a 2 hour precedure out patient test?????? not counting doctor,anethestic,x ray,drugs,nurse .total bill $6,000.00 that is insane......so lets say no healthcare....how long before only the super rich can get healthcare,how long before only they get to live a long prosperous life,how long before someone is deciding who lives and who dies.....and that is already happening based on income....assests,because when there gone so are you........kinda like the pay as you go for profit jails .....funny how the population is higher in the states who have instituted that.that is a private sector solution... i dont think so..... that is a taxpayer ripoff.

WE need to look at it all and the why's before we go ripping people.

WE COULD MAKE THE CASE THAT THEY ALL NEED TO BE OUT OF A JOB,BECAUSE THEY CERTAINLY ARE NOT SERVING OUR BEST INTRESTS....

THE JOB CREATORS HAVE CREATED NOTHING BUT HAVOC.......AND ARE ATTEMPTING TO CREAT A SLAVE SOCIETY TO SERVE THERE AMBITIONS,I DONT SEE ANY NON HISPANICS PEOPLE IN THE FIELDS??????? Welfare/food stamps You would be surprised to know that low income people who are receiving food stamps have jobs and some are going to college, and its pretty rough to pay for classes and a roof over your head at the same time.

Elderly people also get food stamps...

Single Mothers get food stamps for their kids and why shouldn't they ? Everyone has a different story to tell, you cannot group them together as being one of the same. Every case is different !

I don't know where you have gotten the idea when a disaster happens here we don't have a state of emergency where we send our National Guard to help, we send money and food to the area hit with a bad situation.... and we help them rebuild

You need to stop listening to Fox news and hear the real news.....

To everyone on this board, I am simply a 61 year old working man that lives in Canyon County, who has some unpopular stands on a variety subjects. I try to moderate my post's and it works most of the time, although I have had one pulled. I belong to no party or group, and I simply state my ideas and opinions.

As most of you have seen from some of my other post's, I hate wasteful spending. I also have a very low opinion of a group of people and companies that use their wealth and power to dodge taxes that most of us have to pay. Surprisingly I do agree with Mike on several levels, and totally oppose him and others on others. That's why we are Americans. We have that right. I will never down talk anyone, berate them or call them names. I was raised to interact with others in a civilized manner.

Well Cisco is small peanuts compared to G.E. They were the company I was referring to. I never said to tax the rich by the way. All I want is for EVERYONE to have to play by the same rules. No more special tax breaks if they donate right, or have enough $$$ to literally write their own section of the tax code to their advantage. And if Ferd made a million dollars and played by the same rules that a person making making 50K a year, I don't have a problem with that. The tax code as it is written now is a total joke. Not even the I.R.S. can figure it out. I have a great idea. Tear it up, throw it in the dumpster, and let Dave Ramsey have a crack at writing a new tax code. It. will be simple and to the point, and written in terms everyone can understand. If you don't know who Dave Ramsey is, catch him at noon on 580 AM.

Pat is on the Honor Guard with the American Legion and tomorrow in Boise he will be honoring a fallen veteran as he does so many times.

The Honor Guard is a very special part of the Legion and is made up with all volunteers...

THAT ...IS A "FREE MARKET SOLUTION WE CAN DO WITHOUT"....I Have been to many countries and one thing that was common among most was you as a non citizen could not own the countrolling interest of anything 49% yes, control no.Me i am against china or anyone else owning LAND in AMERICA.i am not into conspiracy's etc so there are other reasons that someone might have but i am into sovreniety. To everybody, a flat tax would be great as long as the are NO special tax breaks, NO special write-offs, none of that nonsense. A company makes X dollars after deducting the materials and labor to produce a product, and they pay the same flat tax rate as the consumer, period.

RAISE THE CEILING ....... THE BUDGET AND OTHER STUFF ARE SEPERATE ISSUES THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN THE SAME CONVERSATION......I SAID WEEKS AGO THEY ARE PLAYING WITH US ....PERIOD.

THEY ARE LOOKING TO MAKE THIS PRESIDENT GO TO THE 14TH AMENDMENT.....then they will start Impeachment process that is the end game....it's right in front of us......doesnt make any difference wether they are successfull or not it will keep our attention and the presidents.

MC connell made that plain today. this is so solvable they ought to be shot.......all of them,both sides.

I watched Piers Morgan tonight, you know the Brit guy who doesn't sugar coat anything. He got after a couple Republicans that were on his show. He asked them why did they work on Boehners bill knowing it wouldn't pass the senate? Why did they waste that time when time is so crucial?

Then he interviewed a Papa Johns Pizza owner who delivered 20 pizzas up to Boehner for the house and guess what they were put on a credit card!!

Dates look at the dates you are talking about concerning unions.That is your frame of reference,now lets look at what is happening today. That is what i am told all the time"that doesnt happen anymore" well lets look and see with the unions and if it does, are all of them doing it or just some? .who,when and where ok

Dupuytren's, I had never heard of that so I looked it up. It said injections or surgery is the only way you will get relief if it keeps recurring

When you get playing again we will have to come out and see you play at Curly's and Karl's some.

Nope it's not......there is something insideous going on here and I cant quite put my finger on it.I AM GOING TO SPEND THE DAY BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE CHANNELS I NEED TO GET A FEEL ON THIS.

ONE thing that gets me is they appear to be at each others throats but im not sure that is real.The mere fact that they would put politics above the nations welfare bothers me so bad.ALL of them,time for them to go.The president says you guys bring me what needs to be done that you can agree on and they start brawling.That is not a solution if they worked for a major corporation they would get fired.The boss wants a solution and we better get it.

like US ZOOK DCM SAID tell me what we need to do and then he blessed it or said that aint good enough,these people have no concept on even governing.WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO OURSELVES????????

My husband worked for 27 1/2 years on Mtn Home AFB and wasn't in a union , in fact during those years he wasn't even asked once to join a union....
