I Ain't Buyin' It
My Dad passed away in 1988, but I still think about him often. He had always been an inspiration to ME, to always try your best to do what's right, and not be afraid to call "B.S."-----when you see it.
As Father's Day approaches, I've thought about what he might say if he was still here.
It wouldn't be pretty.
My Dad was one of the hardest working people I've ever known. He spent most of his life as an automobile mechanic, which COULDN'T have been easy for him, since his legs had been badly crippled with arthritis since he'd been a teen. He always walked with a limp in both legs and was hunched over slightly all the years of his life.........yet he was always working and providing....laying under cars, and leaning over fenders fixing them. The last dozen days of his employment, he was the lead mechanic for the San Francisco branch of Hertz Rent-A-Car in San Francisco.
He barely made a hundred bucks a week, and our rent on Potrero Hill was $65.00 a month.
UPSTAIRS, above OUR flat....lived the Heston family. Eddie & Madge had 8 kids. She was living on Welfare while he was doing time in Folsom for burglary. Even when he got out, they still lived on welfare, because he never even went out LOOKING for work........I mean....What FOR?....if you can survive off the "system."
Early every morning, my OWN Dad would limp out to the car, drive across town, put in a full day, and just look forward to coming home to rest and have a little supper. There wasn't a thing wrong with Eddie Heston upstairs. He was just lazy......and of course, could always use the old excuse......."well, nobody wants to hire an ex-con"......Just about everybody has a "card" of SOME kind, if they want to play it ("I can't work because my ingrown nails cause me too much pain to drive a car to work"),
Hey.....there were jobs out there for ANYBODY.......if they WANTED to work. And there still ARE.........maybe not the high paying job you think you SHOULD have, as you CANNOT start at the top as a CEO..........but I worked for $1.77 an hour when I first got out of the Marine Corps, until I could find a better one for $2.72.
Hey.....it's FOOD, a little gas and a small roof to flop under. It was 1969....I was fresh out of Camp Pendleton and in phenominal shape. My Dad was crippled up even worse now, but still commuting to work and turning wrenches all day, until a bad heart attack put an end to THAT and he was forced to retire in 1971.
But if HE could still pound the garage floors as bad off as HE was physically all those years, the old Bazookaman here would NEVER have given thought to trying to "milk the system", even if it meant SWEEPING floors in a warehouse.
Matter of pride.
So, while it may appear to some folks that the Bazookaman of today doesn't have a lot of "humanitarian" traits................well..............you're right.
My Grandfather, then my Dad, and then MYSELF......toiled at hard honest work. Nothing glamorous or lucrative, mind you, but we didn't live off the sweat of others.
The Military pension I get today is CONTRACTURAL.......for what I was WILLING to do and DID do for Uncle Sam, and I need not explain that to ANY civilian. After I retired, I STILL went out there and hustled up a job, and worked up until just a few years ago.........and IT wasn't glamorus either.........no desk with a nameplate on it, no 3-piece suit.........
But I've never taken the "bum's way out", sitting around crying that I grew up poor, and by golly, the whole world just OWED me something........well.........just BECAUSE!
If ALL of our military retirement got cut off to pay for this government's spending, and Donna & I were in real trouble, I wouldn't feel it "below my dignity" to be a door greeter somewhere. I doubt anybody's gonna hire a 63-year old dude with cancer problems, but I would do whatever I could to provide for Donna & I. I'd find a job doing SOMETHING!
There ARE a lot of people on welfare and food stamps that truly needed help at first, but after discovering that they could live "ok" WITHOUT having to go back to work, a LOT of them starting figuring out ways to abuse the system and STAY in that situation.............heck....."Why bust your butt, if your NEIGHBOR will"----and YOU still get PAID every month.
I ain't buyin' it.
And NOW we're helping people who AREN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!..........In California (no surprise THERE)....the ILLEGALS (who AREN'T supposed to BE here)....are being giving TUITION ASSISTANCE for COLLEGE, even while the state gives "IOU" REFUNDS to the taxpayers out there!
Are ANY of you out there BUYING this crap? Is it "OK" with any of YOU?
And THIS one isn't "Arnold", 'cause he's GONE! This is the "whore-calling" new/old guy running things out there now with Dianne, Barbara and Nancy.
There are hard working AMERICANS out there who can't afford to put their OWN "AMERICAN CITIZEN" children INTO college, but look who's "lighting the path" for the ILLEGALS!!
...............and some of you guys can't understand why we don't say positive things about the left..........
Well..........SHOW us something that's worth "bragging" ABOUT!
We argue on these blogs about the "amnesty program" being or NOT being about potential votes for the "left"
Well......I'm just dying to see which one of you out there defends the left on THIS one......that this California decision ISN'T about potential "RE-ELECTION" VOTES!
Talk about sellin' the taxpayers out with their OWN MONEY! Do ya suppose they'll pay this ILLEGAL TUITION with "IOU's?"
That's why I'm a proud Tea Partier............like the REST of my brothers and sisters out there...........I ain't buyin' ANY of it anymore.
As much as I love and miss my Dad, I am SO GLAD he's gone. What's happening in this country today WOULD kill him!
What I find incredible, is how so many people can continue to SUPPORT that party, even with their OWN POCKETS being picked right in front of them!
On OUR side.....how do WE not see through the McCain's, Corders, Labrabors and Romneys of this world?
"I feel your pain."
B.S.
The only thing THEY feel is the champagne in their throats at the Friday night caviar parties.......and the salt air in their faces on the weekends from the YACHTS that YOU PAY FOR.
Ccollectively, we have PROVEN to BE actually as stupid as they keep hoping we are..........because we keep putting them RIGHT BACK IN THERE, DON'T WE!!!
I ain't buyin' it.
God Bless what's left of America.
