Where are you getting the information on 38 Million? What passed and won't even get signed to maybe next week. The stop gap hasn't even been signed yet. Everything I have seen the spending cut is 39.5 Billion with a "B" which is still only a drop in the bucket.

  • Joe It's 38 Billion and your right it hasn't been signed yet, and I believe its only for 2011. I see there is talks of another budget for 2012 and 13.

The time for 2011 budget talks was extended until Thursday

I was reading over on the Washington Post site and look at this (I copied and pasted)

The D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program -- which provides low-income District students with federal money to attend private schools -- is a top priority of Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). The program was closed to new entrants by Democrats in 2009, but Boehner has sought to revive and expand the program. The House passed a Boehner-authored bill last month -- the SOAR Act -- to reauthorize the program for five more years, and that bill will be included in the final spending deal and signed into law by Obama.

  • Yes, it's 38 billion with a "B". Please check your facts before hitting "send".

Maybe you could also write a column about who is going to pay to feed and raise all the un-aborted children in your perfect world. Children born to teenagers, drug users, child abusers, etc. Children born to people who are just really poor and can't afford them? What about those costs? Nobody ever seems to want to talk about that.

Look at how many children in this country already suffer from poverty and abuse. But let's go ahead and cut funding for child health care anyway.

  • Abortionist program??? 3%. THREE PERCENT. That's how much abortion services make up of Planned Parenthoods day-to-day doings. And the money used to perform those services doesn't come from government funding anyway, despite your round-about attempt to imply that it does. The vast majority of the services Planned Parenthood provides are low-cost access to contraceptives and women's health services like cancer screenings and STD treatments. The money Republicans want to take away from PP would limit or prevent access to these potentially life-saving services to thousands of poverty stricken women throughout America. You don't agree with abortion? Fine, that's your right. But don't let your personal feelings impact the ability of women in America to get affordable access to important health care. Unless you can come up with another avenue for these services to reach women in need. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

    For the record:

  • You've got to be kidding me-you make Planned Parenthood sound like they're an abortion slaughterhouse factory or something. Planned Parenthood is funded by the federal government for also offering amazing care like preventative pap-smears, HIV testing, and birth control (and there's so much more). I know they also do A LOT of counseling to try to dissuade women from having an abortion, making sure women understand that it's truly a last resort. We are a lucky community to have such an amazing resource such as Planned Parentood. If you wish to inform, please INFORM. It appears the "facts" you presented weren't even viable, anyway.

Really, this article says more about YOUR inadequacies, rather than the federal government's.

I saw a little bit ago that the 38.5 Billion cut is over 10 years but how true the media is reporting that is yet to be seen. According to the media Congress still has to write the Bill for the spending cuts and the budget for the rest of this fiscal year, then it gets debated for 3 days on the floor by their own rules before it is voted on. So that being said it will be Thur before they vote on the spending cuts and the budget. The stop gap Obama is suppose to have and not signed it yet, and there will be no camera's or media there when it is signed, so no big party for this one. So for now the Government still has no money to operate with. A question that has been asked if the Government went broke at midnite where is the money coming from now to go ahead and spend even after everything is signed? All just a play of figures and thats suppose to make the American public happy and they are Not.

  • Joe this is what I got from the Washington times

Early Saturday morning, when the government technically had run out of money, Congress passed and sent a short-term spending bill to the White House that keeps the government open until the end of next week. During that reprieve, the House and Senate are expected to pass a broader bill that funds the government for the rest of fiscal year 2011, which ends Sept. 30.

Here's a link that tells you more about abortions and it includes information on abortions in Idaho

  • Please, please and I ask again, please forgive the M in illions instead of the Billions. I can't believe I missed it. My bad.

Hey Ginko, slowdown, & Heather: Nice to see new people commenting. I appreciate your comments and I believe that ya'll have a right to your opinion. So forgive me as I give you mine.

Workingstiff is right! So is MtnHomer, too. Planned Parenthood is a drain on the taxpayers. We have to cut the stuff that we had to people. We have to get rid of all spending that is not essential. And yes, that is where the problem lies. How can we come to an understanding about what is essential? As far as PP is concerned, they are providing other services that the Obamacare Bill was passed to cover. So if they want to force us all to have nationalized healthcare, then what do we need the PP for?

Heather and others who value Planned Parenthood and abortions can read my next blog. You say that nobody wants to talk about those things. Well, I can talk about it. I have my opinion.

  • Put emotions aside, when deciding to fund Planned parenthood the decision comes down to costs and benefits. Again, put aside one's feelings about abortion. Once that leap is made, the American public can objectively say whether the plug should be pulled on this organization or not.
