Ben's Infamous Pen
Kelly Everitt and a few others quoted Ben Franklin about security.
"No man's life, liberty or fortune is safe
while our legislature is in session."
I love this fore-father. So I thought that I would share more. He had plenty of things to say that fit with today. (all quotes are from Benjamin Franklin)
"... as all history informs us, there has been in every State & Kingdom a constant kind of warfare between the governing & governed: the one striving to obtain more for its support, and the other to pay less. And this has alone occasioned great convulsions, actual civil wars, ending either in dethroning of the Princes, or enslaving of the people. Generally indeed the ruling power carries its point, the revenues of princes constantly increasing, and we see that they are never satisfied, but always in want of more. The more the people are discontented with the oppression of taxes; the greater need the prince has of money to distribute among his partisans and pay the troops that are to suppress all resistance, and enable him to plunder at pleasure. There is scarce a king in a hundred who would not, if he could, follow the example of Pharaoh, get first all the peoples money, then all their lands, and then make them and their children servants for ever ..."
WOW!!!!!!
How about this controversal statement!
"A Bible and a newspaper in every house,
a good school in every district -
all studied and appreciated as they merit -
are the principal support of virtue, morality, and civil liberty."
OMGoss! He can't be talking that way! Somebody get the PC Police! We need to find this man and fine him for even suggesting such a thing! And if he doesn't stop, I'm sure that the PC police can find something to charge him with and put him where he belongs; Away from good civilized koolaid-loving, lemmings everywhere. We must protect the people from such talk! (note: this is sarcasm, folks!)
"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.
As nations become corrupt and vicious,
they have more need of masters."
Hmmm. Virtuous people? We have so fallen short! Now more than ever! God forgive us.
Now I end this Ben's Infamous Pen #1 on a great statement!
"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
Cheers! We should all just sit down at a good pub and raise a pint to freedom! (7:19am)
