Obama is Key to the Treaty
Weeks ago, when I did a blog on the Copenhagen Climate Treaty, the White House said that Obama was not going to go. Interesting that the comment denying Obama's plans to attend came right at the time that most of us EX's were talking about it and letting people know what the treaty actually was all about. Now, most people have moved on to the worry of healthcare reform and the Treaty's heartlight is beginning to glow again. Copenhagen has had confirmation from the British Prime Minister and the French President that they will attend. Other countries are anxiously awaiting word from Obama. You see, though China has taken 1st place in the carbon emissions game, America is still the one that they look to be the leader that sways all nations to join in signing the treaty. Obama is the key. Scary, huh? You bet your mama's boots, it is! When you have an arrogant camera-loving, wanna-be star as your President, the attention from the world is all he wants. He will play it for all it's worth. I'm sure that Obama is eating it up. After winning that Peace trinket from the Nobel people, I'm sure that it weighs heavily on his decision-making thought process. He knows that he is expected to attend, if only to prove that he was indeed worthy of that award. Pride may play a bigger role in signing a treaty that will forever alter the freedom of Americans forever. PRIDE!
"So will the President make his way to the city of Hans Christian Andersen and Soren Kierkegaard? So far the White House has played coy, saying there have been no concrete plans one way or another. But in an interview with Reuters on Monday, Obama gave his strongest indication yet that he might make the trip. "If I am confident that all the countries involved are bargaining in good faith and we are on the brink of a meaningful agreement and my presence in Copenhagen will make a difference in tipping us over the edge, that's certainly something I would do," he said." And Barcelona this past week, visibly seen that the countries were looking to Obama. The U.P.I.com reported, "U.S. negotiators in Barcelona disappointed representatives from developing countries. Despite a strong campaign pledge from President Barack Obama to inject new life into climate-protection negotiations, the United States has not stepped up to the challenge, developing nations say. A U.S. climate bill is delayed in the Senate, and Washington's negotiators in Barcelona were not ready to back concrete emissions-reductions targets that would be ensured by U.N. oversight." They will not back anything unless Obama is able to get us onboard.
The U.S. and Obama are the key. Others agree. Kim Chapman of Bloomberg.com reported today, that Congress was getting on the bandwagon. "A bipartisan "framework" to combat climate change may be reached in the U.S. Senate before global meetings in Copenhagen next month to craft a new treaty on global warming, Senator Joe Lieberman said. Senator Richard Lugar, an Indiana Republican, "U.S. leadership is crucial at this time," he said. A Senate "framework" on climate change can work as a "very strong political message" from the U.S.
After reading these articles, I couldn't help but think that Obama will not say definitely that he is going until the day before. The reason is quite simple, really. Quite clever too, I imagine. Obama knows how loudly the EX's can be heard. He's experienced it lately. He knows that the EX's will get the red flags out in record numbers and most people will start talking about it. Those that are for it will scream and those that know without a shadow of a doubt, just how important this is, will scream louder! Obama doesn't want to deal with it. He would rather be on Air Force One flying to Copenhagen safe from the people. He will do exactly what he pleases because he knows that he can. Start screaming people! Right now. Don't wait for him to announce his trip. By then it will be too late. It may already be too late, but one can hope and dream. At least for now, we still have that. BTW-if you want to read about global warming, there is enough online to keep you reading for years. However, I did enjoy the website, JunkScience.com. It is worth the effort. I think you will enjoy the read.
