Who's That Behind the Curtain?
Who is the boss? Like Oz, projecting his booming voice so that it echoes with authority, I wonder who is really behind the curtain. Obama has been like a puppet since he took office. I have said it many times. However, it was also said that G.W. was the same while he was in office. So same story, different party, different year, I guess. Perhaps, the office of the President is nothing but a hand-puppet theatre and all who enter transform into Pinocchio whether they wish to or not. Or is it Punch and Judy? Not sure. I read a wonderful article that asked the question, "Who's Pulling Obama's Strings?" (Gave me a fun visual in my head.)
"Many who voted for President Obama feel deceived. When he said in Florida last year "we cannot afford the same political games and tactics that are being used to pit us against one another," people believed him. When he extolled "rejecting fear and division for unity of purpose," people believed him. When he said on election night "I will listen to you, especially when we disagree," people believed him." by Liz Peek (FOXNews)
Thanks, Liz. I have seen it and heard it in others who were Obama fans. His approval has fallen faster than ever. I think one of the first things I ever wrote for this paper was called, A Shiny New Car. In that I described how I saw Obama as a shiny new car, polished and looking good and pleasing to the eyes but inside, it was the same old motor running it. I saw him as the sparkle for the people of the nation to focus on. "Oh, look! Something shiny!" He was everything that the people needed to keep them occupied so that the man behind the curtain could take care of business. "Shiny! I love sparkle!" said the masses.
While the real boss is working on changing things; passing as many of those democratic bills that died in other times, Obama prances around the country playing the role. He is sent everywhere to be seen. He is sent fundraising, doing interviews, golfing, ever the campaigner while the real leading is being done. As long as they can keep him running here and there, rattling off his nonsense, nobody will notice who is really in charge.
Now, the shine is starting to wear off. The new on the outside has faded and it's not as exciting as it once was. That shiny car has lost it's appeal. The engine is far more important than we had first thought. The sparkle just hurts the eyes and many have to look away. What is that over there? Suddenly, people are noticing the curtain and curiosity is beginning to pull them closer and closer to reaching out and grabbing a piece of that curtain. Who will be there, frantically pushing the buttons? I don't think he's ready for that yet. No, he's not done pushing all that he can push. Stop! Leave that curtain alone. I am the great and powerful Obama. Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain! I am Obama!
