Fan Comments
Why I think _ is the Best Movie of the Year?
Ty McRae-Avatar: The movie had had a great plot and had the graphics and cast to support it as well, it makes you think there's an actual other world out there.
Ben McCluskey-The Hangover: I was laughing through the whole thing. It was a good movie that showed what a weekend in Vegas is like.
Tori Stipp-New Moon: New Moon is the Best Movie of the year because of Taylor Lautner.
Tori McMillen-Star Trek: I can't even put into words how awesome Star Trek was. It had an amazing director, extremely talented actors, and crazy special effects. To top it all off, it was Star Trek, and really that's all it needed to be the best movie ever.
Jacob D'Amour-Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: Transformers is the Best Movie of the Year because of two words: Megan Fox.
10. Pirate Radio
This was a fun movie to watch depicting the 1960's and the evolution of Rock N' Roll. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, as the Count, was one of the best performances I've seen this past year. The supporting cast, of British actors Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost and Bill Nighy were also solid, the on screen chemistry between the lead actors made the movie so fun to watch, plus a genius credit roll that featured multiple album covers from past and present.
9. The Men Who Stare At Goats
Quite possibly, the oddest movie title I've ever seen, and yet this movie was absolutely hilarious. George Clooney, who I feel is one of our best actors, delivers a great performance as lead psychic soldier Lynn Cassidy. The supporting cast was hilarious as well including Jeff Bridges whose character totally reminded me of the Dude from The Big Lebowski. Most people may disagree with this selection due to the political points in the film, but if you disregard that, this movie was just a great "popcorn" flick of '09.
8. The Informant
Another Ocean's 11 star that had a big 2009 was Matt Damon, whose year began with his hilarious performance as Marc Whitacre in the true story of a top level executive with a checkered past who turns on his own company. This was also a personal favorite, because I'm a big fan of the Soup and the fact the film featured Soup host Joel McHale as one of the FBI agents along with former Enterprise captain Scott Bakula. I wouldn't rank this movie the best comedy of 2009, but this was definitely one of the best films of 2009.
7. Up
Of all the animated films in 2009, no film stood out more than Disney and Pixar's "Up." It was truly a heartwarming story of an elderly balloon vendor pursuing his late wife's dreams, and no matter what obstacle he made sure his wife's dream became true. The film should be the frontrunner for Best Animated Movie at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
6. Sherlock Holmes
One of three late entries to the countdown, is Sherlock Holmes. Again, Robert Downey, Jr. continues his successful career resurgance as the master literary sleuth joined by sidekick Dr. Watson played by Jude Law. The film directed by Guy Ritchie, features solid comedy and great action sequences. The chemistry between leads Downey and Law was fun to watch plus Rachel McAdams never looked better.
