The Proposal
TRAILERS: Gamer, Public Enemies, Twilight Saga: New Moon
America's Sweetheart Sandra Bullock is back in a role you'd never expect in The Proposal.
In the film, Bullock plays Margaret Tate, a cold and brash publisher whose feared by her entire staff including her assistant Andrew Paxton played by Ryan Reynolds.
Following Tate firing the co-editor, she learns that her Canadian visa has expired, and will soon be deported. In effort, to save her job, Margaret says that she and Andrew are getting married.
Andrew excepts on the one condition, that Margaret promotes him to editor.
While her immigration case is underway to prove the validity of the marriage, Andrew takes Margaret home to Alaska for the weekend for his grandmother's (Betty White) 90th birthday, from there Margaret gets to know his parents played by Craig T. Nelson and Mary Steenburgen and his ex-girlfriend played by Malin Akerman (Watchmen).
While in Alaska, Andrew's family convinces them to marry on the same weekend, and as usual for a chick flick, the two lead characters Andrew and Margaret slowly start to fall in love after all.
I went to this movie, with not really good expectations, but first off Sandra Bullock, who many know for her sweet roles in films like Hope Floats or While You Were Sleeping, turns up the b. dial in this role and did it surprisingly well.
Reynolds, whose fresh off the X-Men bore, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," as Deadpool, returns with a solid performance, equal to his last date movie role in Definitely, Maybe. A lot of critics, would say Shia LaBeouf is the "Next Tom Hanks", I disagree as far as date movies go, I think Reynolds is way on his way to becoming the "Next Tom Hanks."
The comedic timing between the two lead roles was great to see, and I will go on record and say my early favorite for Best Scene of the year has to be Sandra Bullock dancing and rapping to "Get Low" by Lil' Jon and the Eastside Boys, all I have to say is "Wow."
A stand out role in the film, was Betty White's character "Annie", who many remember from The Golden Girls and her cameos on That 70's Show, turned out some of the funniest moments in the film, including the scene where she had Sandra Bullock's character try on her wedding dress, hysterical.
Oh and lastly, for those who don't like staying for the credits, stay for the credits for "The Proposal", it's worth seeing.
I think this was a fun movie, perfect to bring a date to, and will have moments not only for girls to laugh at, but will have the occasional moments for guys to laugh at as well.
